Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

OUCH!
looks like Rihanna only got nominated for
Best Dance Recording
Best Collaberation
Best Long Form Video
no Record, song or vocal of the year. Dissapointed. I'm not.

AND PAPER PLANES FOR SONG OF THE YEAR! YEAHHHHHH!

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

Wrong. Paper Planes did NOT get a song of the year nomination.

Congrats Rihanna. To get 3 nominations in a year when you did not have a new album out is quite impressive.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

lmao. If it wasn't for Maroon 5, one of those nominations wouldn't have happened, considering it's Maroon 5's song and it was nominated in another category without her. And, hmm, according to this thread, I thought Rihanna would have the most nominations! Guess someone overestimates her "talent/substance."
Anyway, I'm surprised at the lack of "superstar" nominations this year. I'm actually kind of glad.

Oh, and just to make a correction to Donut, Katy Perry is working on her third consecutive hit, so before you spout off B.S., get the facts correct :)

Oh, and I also disagree that music-buyers purchase flash over substance. I think it's actually been the other way around lately. There's a ton of artists I never knew about who are suddenly huge, but they've been out for years...or bands that I've known about but never really listened to. We all have our own musical desire. Whether it be careless fun pop music like Britney and Madonna (which I don't care for but anyway...) or songs that actually bring out strong emotion from it's listener. For example, I'm a big Mariah Carey fan. A lot of people don't like her, but I do. I can relate to a lot of the personal songs that DO NOT get released, that a lot of people never hear. She's judged on the hits, and although some are generic and not exactly deep, people assume she's just mindless clutter. People fail to realize songs like
Petals
I Am Free
Close My Eyes
Outside
I Wish You Well
Looking In
etc.

Hell, even Britney has songs like that, even if they may be in the minority.
So it's not really fair to generalize that the music-buying public lacks substance with their taste in music. Unless you've heard every song on every album by every artist, that isn't relevant.

Okay Record of the year, big dif. And you where talking shit like Rihanna would have Record, song and vocal under her belt.

____________

It is a big diff dum dum.

Song of the year represents a songs lyrical quality alone, while record of the year is a songs production value and mass appeal despite its possible lyrical shortcomings.

There is a big difference and which is why they are 2 separate categories.

Song of the year is awarded to the song writer and record to the artist and producer.

And also you fail as nowehere did i say Rihanna would get song of the year i said record of the year for Take A Bow and also its not talking shit when the song had a legitamate chance of getting nominated.

If you read all the crtics predictions 95% of them were saying Take A Bow would get nominated.

Then again you do not need a critic to tell you Take A Bow was one the biggest records of the year.

No possible nomination i posited was unrealistic and underserving.

There is not one nomination i mentioned in this thread that you can say was unrealistic and unworthy. Only maybe R&B vocal but i was teh first to say she probably wouldnt actually win the Grammy but a nom was possible.

LIVE YOUR LIFE was one of the best rap/sung and got snub.

Every song on this list is more worthy than LIVE YOUR LIFE?

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
(For a Rap/Sung collaborative performance by artists who do not normally perform together. Singles or Tracks only.)
American Boy
Estelle Featuring Kanye West
Track from: Shine
[Homeschool/Atlantic]

Low
Flo Rida Featuring T-Pain
Track from: Mail On Sunday
[Poe Boy/Atlantic]

Green Light
John Legend & Andre 3000
[Columbia/G.O.O.D. Music]

Got Money
Lil Wayne Featuring T-Pain
Track from: Tha Carter III
[Cash Money/Universal Motown]

Superstar
Lupe Fiasco Featuring Matthew Santos
Track from: The Cool
[1st & 15th/Atlantic]

I think not. LIVE YOUR LIFE was one of her surest nominations and she didnt get it.

So i was not talking any "shit" everything was realistic and possible, it just wasnt meant to be.

Besides lots of fraud was going on this year. Songs were nominated that werent even released and also a song that was 5 years old got a nomination in 2008 for R&B vocal.

Rihanna had no new album out and still got 3 nominations so congrats Ri Ri.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

haha you are a joke and no will will take you seriously since you said LOW is more worthy than an uplifting and empowering, cathcy anthem like Live Your Life.

Low is a fun club banger telling big booty girls to get low on the dance floor and to you say thats more worthy than Live Your Life lol

Dont get me wrong i loved LOW and got low at the clubs and give it a dance recording nom but LIVE YOUR LIFE was robbed a nom.

Low if fun but its fluff.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

I just wanted to take this time to thank Rihanna for inventing Maybelline makeup. A lot of my female friends use that make-up, and we shouldn't take it for granted. Thankyou Rihanna.

And she invented it. All by herself. Well, okay, she didn't invent it, but she came up with the idea. Okay, okay, somebody else came up with the idea, but she broke her back in the factory to manufacture the make-up. Wait, no, somebody else did that. Well it's her cute face that we see in the commercial, so let's thank Rihanna for Maybelline cosmetics.

Let's ignore all the people behind the scenes who put it together, market it, and manufacture the music, whoops, I mean makeup, let's give her the glory cuz it's her cute face we see in the commercials.

:=D: Danugh seriously no one on this site takes anything you say seriously we all think you are a psycho so why do you even stay here?

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

^I'll betcha $20 that if it was Beyonce singin the hook on "Live My Life" he'd say that the record was trash, that it's corny and idealistic bullshit.

And if Rihanna sang i kissed a girl it would be a breakthrough reach out to the gay community and a feminist anthem.

If I recall correctly, the Grammy's aren't about empowering and uplifting "anthems." And 'Life Your Life' isn't any of that anyway.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

HAHA wow this thread was pretty entertaining to read.. From all the way back in September when Danugh was predicting that Rihanna would take home enough Grammys that would require a semi truck to transport them all to her home, to yesterday discovering she was only nominated for 2 Grammys (I don’t count maroon 5’s). And hopefully the lack of nods that were expected didn’t put a damper on the Rihanna party lol.

Well about the Grammys.. First of all, is there even an actual Grammy thread (not that it really matters)? I just feel a tiny bit confused with the thread title, unless they titled this years Grammys, “Rihanna Presents: The 51st Annual [STRIKE]Grammy[/STRIKE] Rihanna Awards!”

I was really surprised, this turns out to be one of the shittiest Grammys ever. What happened to Alicia keys???? That is kind of a shocker being a Grammy darling, and since Like You’ll Never See Me Again had Grammys written all over it imo. Lesson Learned is a good song, but I am surprised about the nod since most songs nominated are singles, right? I don’t care for Superwoman and Another Way to Die is one of the worst videos of the year. Nick Cannon’s masterpiece for I Stay in Love might as well have been nominated. I am pleasantly surprised that Estelle was recognized, even though I don’t know how well of a chance she has. Besides Alicia Keys, I think that Leona Lewis got snubbed. Best new artist, HELLOOO? Maybe the nominees’ names were scribbled down on a paper and they thought it said Jonas Brothers instead of Leona Lewis? Apologize was such a big song, I’m surprised they didn’t get more either. I’m somewhat surprised Usher didn’t get more, but it makes sense. I’m also surprised that Mariah Carey did not even get 1 nomination! I didn’t expect her to be a highlight for this year, but I thought she would have 2 or 3, maybe for pop vocal or album. Wow sexual eruption surprised me too, it seems a lot older I totally forgot about it, but I actually hope he wins. Holy crap, I almost forgot about Keyshia Cole, good for her, hopefully she can win something even though I expected I Remember to be more Grammy worthy. Lil Wayne was surprising too and doesn’t make sense to me at all. Who actually votes for nominations? When it comes to rap/hip hop categories I just imagine older Caucasian men voting for what they heard their granddaughters talking about the most. Or maybe it is just about the name, I don’t know, but I guess that could be said about any category.

Adele and Coldplay make sense and will probably win everything, hopefully Leona Lewis will take something, and everything else will be insignificant. I’ll call it an early night.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

I agree with Thiskidd24 - Leona Lewis did get snubbed. I think she deserves a Best New Artist nomination.

I also think Rihanna isn't particularly deserving of any especially for 'Live Your Life' which has got to be the worst piece of trash I have ever heard - and Rihanna's "vocals" are the worst I have ever heard them, and that is saying something.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

i've figured it out! i respect britney's music about as much as i respect each of the cast members of charm school, but then again i watch charm school for laughs and guilt. whereas, britney seems to win apparetly highly praised awards.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

You're praising a Numanuma knockoff.

Take some time to read the lyrics of the song before you comment ok.

Sorry to burst your bubble but NOBODY here takes you seriously. You're the joke of this forum ever since you made up bull shit stories about how you're the object of desire to the heterosexual male population. And you talk about Beyonce being fake?

I honestly don't know what it is about Rihanna that you think is so godly but I'll admit it's humorous to see how you'll defend her to the death in these threads.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

And America has been putting it on repeat which is why it was number 1 for so many weeks and still top 3 after all this time.

You people can hate on the song all you like because you dont matter.

Rihanna is still on top.

Its funny because the song is all about sticking it to the haters.

LIVE YOUR LIFE :)

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

I think we do matter, actually.

The fact that you think Rihanna cares about you is a joke. All she cares about is raking all that money in before she falls off the face of the earth.

Re: Rihanna and the 2009 Grammys

Her Grammy will make her fall even faster. Its kinda heavy.

But i love the hate talking about Rihanna is gonnaa fall.

Keep it up.

We thrive on it the more you hate the more your body will be consumed by the poison meanwhile Rihanna and i are living our life never mind what haters say.

(Exits singing the number 1 smash LIVE YOUR LIFE)
