ACORN Folds As National Organization
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/acorn_folds_as_national_organization.php

Acorn was targeted because they were effective advocates for the working poor and disenfranchised in the US.

The fact that allegations against them were bogus had no effect on the outcome. Another example showing that you don’t need facts on your side, just the ability to manipulate a gullible media into reporting your talking points as if they had any correspondence to reality.

They were targeted because they were supposed to be non-political, and though funded by the federal government, openly supported Obama for President. That is a no-no.

And Churches acting like political foundations is also supposed to be a no-no, but many frequently and openly break that rule with impunity.

If you want to act like a political organization, than you should be taxed like one.

They were voter fraud personified and should all be in jail. Now maybe we can have honest elections.

Not as long as the Supreme Court hasn't been abolished.

You can make up all the stories about ACORN all you want. They were targeted for getting out the vote.

About what I would expect from you. They are criminals and got what they deserved.

Um, yeah, maybe you think that if you're dumb enough not to understand the difference between voter fraud and voter registration fraud (aka pretending to have signed up more voters than you had if you're an ACORN rep - not actually influencing the election).

If they weren't that dumb, they wouldn't be Republicans.

ACORN's problem was quality control: they had good intentions, grew too fast, didn't get people trained, ended up with some serious wacko cases.

BP's problem was quality control: they cut corners, moved too fast, ignored people who were trained, and ended up with a serious whacked-up situation.

Maddow's right that they're darned parallel, except their motives were different: ACORN got in too deep because it cared about people; BP doesn't care about people, so it got in too deep.

Acorn's troubles leaked, and now ACORN, and the troubles, are gone. BP's trouble is a leak, but even if BP ends up gone, nothing can eliminate the troubles.

Grantt is correct. Acorn was attacked because they acted like a political party while getting taxpayer money.

They were a wild organization that didn't focus on their original goals -- to help the poor. The turned into a political organization that did favors for donations.

I'm sure there were some good people at ACORN - there are good people everywhere. However, from all that came to light ..... there were more bad, dishonest people in the organization than good.

Personally what upset me the most about ACORN was the voter fraud -- one vote per legal citizen should be sacred.

ACORN will not go away -- different name, different leadership.

Oh I'm sure they'll be back.

The whole "gotchya" video was proven to be a fake... the editing hatchet job that made it look like they were supporting child prostitution and human trafficking did a huge amount of damage to them. I'm still confused why the guy who did that didn't get any jail time.

Oh well... Kulindar and Jack are correct that they got too big too fast and quality control was lacking. getting fedral funds and acting like a political action group... no different from the Evangelical Church...

You think we can shut THEM down?

So let me get this straight.....the ACORN worker behind the whole pimp-gate debacle draws as much information out of O'keef as he possibly can, playing along as if he's helping the man plan an illegal activity, and once O'keef leaves his office HE CALLS THE FUCKING POLICE TO REPORT CRIMINAL ACTIVITY!!! The man was immediately fired for being what any-fucking-body would consider being a good citizen.

What I wouldn't give to have 5 minutes alone with little piece of shit for the things he keeps getting away with.

NY Supporters: Take a Stand Against Unconstitutional Defunding of ACORN

New York area CCR supporters, please join CCR this Thursday, June 24, 2010 to take a stand against Congress' unconstitutional defunding of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).

ACORN, a community organization that serves poor, working class people across the U.S., was the subject of a targeted right-wing attack last year. CCR filed a case challenging Congress' unconstitutional actions, and is heading to court this Thursday to make the message loud and clear: give ACORN the federal funding it is undeniably due.

What: Oral Argument in ACORN v. U.S.A.
When: Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. (please arrive by 9:30 a.m. for security and seating)
Where: United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
500 Pearl Street, 9th Floor
Ceremonial Courtroom, New York, NY 10007

So are Churches across the south.
You can't get away with selective memory this time. [-X

I don't think so. We wish Republicans were so morally upright, but let's get real about the alterior motives.

ACORN was targeted because Republicans know that poor minorities support Democrats and they wanted to separate one from the other.

ACORN was targeted because the poor minorities can, are, and will be manipulated by the core of the Democratic party. They should be free from that indoctrination into "plantation politics" and left to make their own decisions.

However, is ACORN really dead or have they simply transformed under a new name? It seems to be the Obama practice to rename every thing once the people get a knowedge of what something does. "The name game" has been perfected in the last couple of years.
