Unfortunately, I can see the writing on the wall. Here in America, the reasonable measures to control the spread of the virus have been thrown out the window, and we've had an explosion of cases as a result. On top of that, all the politicians seem hell-bound to resume classes next month, and of course, schools are the worst place for spreading diseases (how many of those kids are about to become orphans?). I'm afraid COVID-19 is destined to join AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, etc., as a permanent plague of the human race.

The pandemic will be over when there's an effective and widely available vaccine. I'm guessing that will be 2021.

I'm guessing that we will have a vaccine in 2021 and it will disappear, but some people who have had it and have gotten an immunity to it have gotten it again. Apparently their immunity was short lived. I'm not sure if a vaccine would be short lived or not.

I heard one doctor's scenario earlier that is disturbing: that COVID-19 may mutate, and do so fast enough that vaccines aren't possible.

The other disturbing thing I've heard: that immunity may not be lasting. I've heard some talk about the possiblity of catching COVID-19 a second time. If this is true, there wouldn't be much help from either herd immunity from enough people catching and recovering, or a vaccine.

So...this may well be a new normal that we'll have to live with indefinitely...

I am assuming this is the case - have been for awhile. My doctor pretty much said the same thing which is why I ALWAYS wear a mask when I am around anyone other than my husband and I am OK with that because he also ALWAYS wears a mask as well unless he is around me.

I am noticing more and more people are wearing a mask again which is encouraging.

We both also got our 5th shot a couple weeks ago. If there are 20 more shots we will get them too.
