I've downloaded and installed about 20 different programs to try and do this but I'm having a bitch of a time. I was using MakeMKV to rip until I apparently ran out of "free" time on the beta and now I have to pay .. fuck that... I just want a program that's going to rip a video, perhaps use a program to convert to proper DVD format and another to burn. I was using QuickMediaConverter to convert to "another" format so that I could convert into DVD using some other program (DVD Flick) and then used CDBurnerXP to burn the disc. Unfortunately even if I were to be able to get MakeMKV to work again, using QMC to convert didn't always work because I was "degrading" the video/audio or the audio was off sync with the video. Also for some reason, DVD Flick wouldn't accept straight up .mkv video files.

Can someone please help (at least find an app to rip the DVD)? Many people have suggested Handbrake but it ends with an error message and when I attempt play back, it doesn't have audio (am I missing a codec pack for VLC?) I've also tried WinX DVD Ripper, but once the DVD has loaded and I hit "go" it just promps me to upgrade to the Platinum version for some reason...

IMGBURN and Deep Burner didn't work for me either. Is there a program out there that will burn (any) format or automatically convert the file for you and allow you to skip the middle steps? For what it's worth I do have Nero 12, but I don't know how "reliable" it is/going to be with my registration code, if you catch my drift ;)

Thanks for any and all help chaps!

Google "dvd shrink".
I think it'll do what you're looking for in 2 steps.
Brilliant! I'm just curious, do you know of a program that can rip DVD's into a format that can be saved onto a PC (MKV, MPEG2 etc?) I just want to burn DVDs of videos I have already ripped. Unfortunately I have formats all over the place, so (besides Nero) I may need to convert them (and Quick Media Converter doesn't seem to work well).

the one you are looking for would be DVD Decrypter

http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/

this software will remove the DRM from the the DVD, and store the files (VoB) locally - it can then either stop there, or re-burn to another disc.

i'm fairly sure it will also do the burning of already ripped media - but could be wrong

if not, then there's plenty of links on that site -- I'm sure you can find something :)

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are must haves.

For conversion, I use some old version of DVD Fab (8.1.0.5 Qt) I got for free.
It works, but has a learning curve.

I usually use Handbrake to rip my DVDs and Blu-rays followed by using MakeMKV but all you do is just reinstall the program and I think I removed it from my registry and it will usually do another 30 day trial.
