I agree with you that Miller, Vought, and I’d toss Patel and maybe Hegseth in there as well are the people to be worried about if you’re talking about canceling elections or declaring martial law but not Trump in my opinion. I’m not sure about Vance but he’s important because if anyone is serious about taking over you will absolutely need the military and the only way to get them is thru Vance.

Not only will they not need Trump anymore but he will be in the way and will have to be removed. Using one of their right wing nuts to do the deed will be an easy recruitment and after the fact him declaring to be an operative of Antifa will lead to the suspension of elections and perhaps martial law.

Such things can’t be done thru an EO, such things are messy and need careful planning and Trump doesn’t like messy or planning.

The problem with vacating the Speaker position is that this crowd of Republicans doesn't have anyone who is a) willing b) masochistic enough and c) competent and d) who wants the job. Since Boehner, Republican Speakers have taken weeks to elect a Speaker, which left the House unable to function while they search for a willing, masochistic, competent Speaker candidate in their caucus who wants the job.

And a reminder of why Johnson is there: Johnson's mediocre law career prior to entering Congress was working for "socially conservative" legal activist organizations- the organizations always trying to gut LGBT rights, abortion rights and impose "religious rights" litigation. Those organizations are the reason Louisiana has an amendment to the State Constitution that says that marriage is between one man and one woman. Johnson also taught at Liberty University, which is known for cranking out more lawyers with a social conservative agenda, just like Mike Johnson.

Johnson and his evangelical cronies know that they cannot get their legislation passed at the National level through the Democratic process. Johnson as Speaker is part of the Faustian bargain between evangelicals and the three-times-married, two-times-divorced, corrupt, sexual predator, felon President to force an evangelical, far-right nationalist agenda through Congress and get Trump to sign off on it, so that Trump doesn't end up in prison where he belongs.
