Rise of Fascism in the United States [SPLIT]

Everything old is new again.
The Origins of Eugenics in America | The U.S. and the Holocaust | PBS (YouTube video; 2023)

  • A new Ken Burns documentary explores how the Nazis drew inspiration from US policies.
  • The PBS doc, "The U.S. and the Holocaust," was directed by Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein.
  • One historian noted that when criticized for their policies, the Nazis "pointed to Mississippi."
The antisemitic Nazi policies that preceded the Holocaust were inspired, in large part, by segregationist laws and ideals from the US.

That's one of the most prominent arguments in "The U.S. and the Holocaust," a new documentary directed by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein. It premiered Sunday on PBS. The three-part, six-hour series includes testimony from Holocaust survivors and, with the help of historians, examines the initial public apathy in the US toward the World War II-era humanitarian crisis in Europe and the government's reluctance to open its doors to those seeking refuge.

It also probes how the German Nazi Party looked to race laws in the US when crafting its own measures.

While imprisoned in 1924 for attempting a coup, Adolf Hitler learned of new US immigration laws that created quotas to limit the number of immigrants. The documentary highlighted that while the Immigration Act of 1924 didn't specifically mention Jewish people, it was fueled by antisemitic sentiment in the US as leaders feared they would outnumber white Anglo-Saxon Americans.

Rachel Maddow's book "Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism", has a lot of very good information about fascism in the U.S. prior to WW2.

So Susan Rice spoke out and of course Trump went on a rampage about how Netflix has to fire her from their board.

We've already seen way too much of this shit from toadying right wing media companies.

The fascist state relies on universal surveillance. some other website just found out it is now part of that. And it is now likely too late.

Communication platform Dis cord is under fire after its identity verification software, Persona Identities, was found to have front-end code accessible on the open internet and on government servers.

These are two of the people that crowned him King suddenly finding out that
he is planning on destroying the Judiciary and there's nothing they can do to
stop him because he can commit any illegal act he wants and not be responsible.
This is the Roberts Court finding out after fucking around.

In other "monster you created" news, Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" has been nominated for multiple Oscars.

It is amazing to us that this should be happening in the US. That states are moving their own version of the SAVE Act are looking to disenfranchise voters while in other states election officials are having to make plans to deal with the certainty of TrumpCo. interference. Makes us all thankful again that we live in a parliamentary election system without interference like this.

Timothy Snyder has weighed in after Trump's speech...and saying what I have been affirming...that Trump needs a foreign war to complete his complete takeover as Dictator and imposition of a fully fascist government. But also that TrumpCo. is likely incapable of managing this. I think that in coming weeks we will see an ever more reckless TrumpCo. regime on the international stage.

But a declared war supported by a majority of Congress is highly unlikely before mid-terms or after.

So they are stuck as their domestic terrorism in blue states continues to be a failing strategy for them as a way to seize control and his economic policies are unpopular with everyone.

Sen Tim Kaine [D-VA], Reps Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Rep Thomas Massie (R-KY) are already on to Trump is doing.

House Dems vow to force Iran war powers vote next week

The sponsors of the war powers legislation, Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie, had initially planned to hold a vote this week.

Back in 2020, Kaine filed the same legislation. It passed the House and the Senate. Trump vetoed it and it was never brought up for a vote to override the veto. We'll have to see what happens this time around.

It will be a repeat of the last time...only now the GQP Senators and House members will be seeing the strategy and wanting to cancel elections or impose some war powers legislation
We have to hope that Rand Paul and some of the other senators and house members who won't be running for the Repubs in November are brave and steadfast enough not to permit Trump to drag the country into a war.

The problem will be the sell...and it is going to be a hard sell in the background where Hegseth and TrumpCo. are going to paint a picture of the US being welcomed as liberators.

Even if the resolution makes it to a vote it shouldn’t be assumed that all dems will vote for it, Iran brings out different emotions in different reps.

It's not a resolution on whether we don't like Iran or theocracies (non-Christian theocracies, that is).

It's a resolution about whether we're willing to blow another trillion dollars of borrowed money and sacrifice thousands of American lives to do something about it, without the representatives of the American people voting to declare war.

We have to ask ourselves...will American oil companies benefit?

Is it your opinion then that all dems will vote for it?

I try not to predict what politicians will or won't do but here's the vote from 2020:

House:

I suspext that this time around, almost all the GQP will vote in favour and almost all Dems against because they see what this is really all about.

The two militaries keep shooting at each other's stuff.

US military used laser to take down Border Protection drone, lawmakers say

The U.S. military used a laser Thursday to shoot down a “seemingly threatening” drone flying near the U.S.-Mexico border. It turned out the drone belonged to Customs and Border Protection, lawmakers said.

The case of mistaken identity prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to close additional airspace around Fort Hancock, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southeast of El Paso. The military is required to formally notify the FAA when it takes any counter-drone action inside U.S. airspace.

It was the second time in two weeks that a laser was fired in the area. The last time it was CBP that used the weapon and nothing was hit. That incident occurred near Fort Bliss and prompted the FAA to shut down air traffic at El Paso airport and the surrounding area. This time, the closure was smaller and commercial flights were not affected.

Everyone's favorite bowling pin with glasses "suggests" that broadcasters plan on doing nationalistic patriotic programming:

FCC’s Carr urges broadcasters to air ‘patriotic, pro-America’ content

The agency chair’s call is tied to administration efforts to foster celebrations of American exceptionalism ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr wants broadcasters to air “patriotic, pro-America content” to support the White House’s plans to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.

“As America’s 250th anniversary approaches, it is important to reflect on the ideals and events that have defined our past while keeping an eye towards our country’s bright future,” Carr said in a statement Friday. “I am calling on broadcasters to pledge to provide programming that promotes civic education, national pride, and our shared history.”

DHS has been providing some great patriotic examples:

Or we can look to history for great examples of patriotic content:
