Lucky New Yorkers with pre-screening tickets, the ladies of "The View", The "Today show", Talk radio and the list goes on & on with early-PRAISE for the remake of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"..

I've seen the trailer a few times and I thought it looked "good" but according to some of the Reviews Online & Super-Stars on TV declare the Flick as AWESOME. Even Radio's Internationally syndicated #1 show "Coast to Coast" fill-in Host Ian Punnett said a couple of hours ago: " Excellent Movie, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" will CHANGE the way we "Look" @ Film."

I've seen ALL of the Original "Planet of the Apes" a-GaZillion times. Every time I watch the Flicks it's like I'm watching each one for the first time...I wasnt crazy about the first updated "Planet of the Apes" with Mark Wahlberg, but he was decent in it..I think it flopped @ the Box-office..

The Flick Opens Aug 5th in the USA....I will be there...(!)....

I've seen all of the original Planet of Ape movies too.

Including the Mark Wahlberg remake (which I hated the ending to be honest!).

In the original movie Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Ceasar (Roddy McDowel) was saved by Armando (Ricardo Montalban) in which the story line begins to lay out how the apes take over the planet.

Not to let my scifi geek show or anything, but the reason why I liked and really enjoyed the 2009 Star Trek movie was because the writers created an alternate reality. Which made it completely plausible, and allowed the Star Trek franchise to continue.

The original Planet of the Apes back in 1968 told this really weird story, or an alternate universe where Apes were the masters, and humans were the primates.

And then had probably the most killer surprise ending of any movie in cinematic history.

Every sequel that was made after that either elaborated on the story further and showed how the Planet of the Apes itself would end, or attempted to elaborate on the back story of how a Planet of Apes began.

The 2001 Remake Planet of the Apes, didn't add anything to the story and if it did perhaps I missed the "retelling" of it.

AND perhaps I might want to watch it again before I watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I'd be happily surprised to discover that neither of these "remakes" are retelling an already familiar story, but a different take on the same story itself. :)

Familiar to some but new new for others.

Which is why if there are some who've never seen the original anthology won't have a clue what I'm talking about here.

I'm sure that this will be a good movie, and tell a good story within it's own right, but within the Planet of the Apes franchise itself I'm not so sure.

I think it should be called Rise of the apes of the planet of the apes. Rise of the planet of the apes just doesn't seem right. :P

I think it looks good. I can tell from the trailers that they put some hard work and thought into this one. But does it pay off? I hope. It definitely looks much better than Burton's disaster when he attempted a remake.

This however is not a remake or reboot; it is strictly a prequel. Although parts of the story may resemble "Escape. ." and "Conquest. .". But those movies were based on the apes going back into time into human time and trying to reclaim their dominance (it was a catch 22). They were a reversal of the original movie.

I have no problem with the title like many do. I don't understand the dislike for it. It is still part of the "Planet of the Apes" franchise, so hence the title. And as a prequel, it shows how our "planet" becomes dominated by "the apes". Pretty easy to grasp. But I think "Rise of the Apes" would have been a good title too.

In the original movie Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Ceasar (Roddy McDowel) was saved by Armando (Ricardo Montalban) in which the story line begins to lay out how the apes take over the planet.

But that was AFTER Cornelius and Zira (Caesar's parents) travel back to present day from the future in 'Escape from the Planet of the Apes' to escape a nuclear explosion which would have killed them.

Armando owns a circus and hides Cornelius and Zira from the US Army where the pregnant Zira has a baby which they name Caesar. The army finds the apes and kills them. The last word in the movie is from baby Caesar: "Mama." It's at that point that we know the babies were switched and Armando is raising him.

A grown-up Caesar features in the 'Conquest' movie above.

when I saw the trailer, they called the "leading man" Caesar

so this is a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes

in the original series of Films, the Last one Battle for the Planet of the Apes was also a reset

at the end of the flick, the apes decide to allow the subservient huamns to

become equal parts of their society

so the world Charlton Heston landed on 1000 yrs later won't exist (where humans are mute)

breaking the time loop cause by the original time travel

This is NOT a remake of Conquest. Just because there is an ape called Caesar does not make it a remake. There is no precursor to this movie where apes came from the future to "restart" their revolution. This movie tells the story of the actual beginning.

So let's draw this out:

  1. Rise: Apes are genetically modified and rapidly become more intelligent. Their first revolution begins.
  2. Planet of the Apes (original): humans travel to future earth dominated by apes, a long, long time after what happens in Rise.
  3. Beneath: humans learn more about their demise.
  4. Escape: 3 apes from future travel to the past earth still dominated by humans.
  5. Conquest: child from Escape (Caesar) starts revolution to reclaim their destiny.
  6. Battle: the battle to reclaim ape dominance.
  7. Apes 2001: Remake of original, but more true to the novel. But still story not as good as Rod Serling's screenplay, making the movie a virtual failure.

I am pleased that you have made a mention of Rod Serling's contribution.

This extended article sheds some light on the genesis of The Apes saga:

http://www.rodserling.com/pota.htm

I quote:

For Planet of the Apes, this has been complicated by the spread of a great deal of misinformation since the film's release. For example, the title page for the shooting script itself reads: "Screenplay by Michael Wilson ... based on Novel by Pierre Boulle" even though the film's screen credits clearly list the script as being written by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling—in that order. Serling's name is also missing from the Planet script on file at the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles.(24) Most of the newspaper accounts used for this study even link Wilson and Serling together as if the two writers worked in a single room, sitting at twin typewriters. In fact, the various writers' work on the script occurred thousands of miles and many years apart.

I think there was a Planet of the Apes TV series back in the day...Maybe HBO should tackle such a project. ABC failed with "V". I think HBO would do right by giving new Life to the "Apes" saga...

well, I guess I could make a movie about the civil war, with main characters named

Rhett and Scarlett, but I'll call it Gone with the War so no one confuses with that

other totally different movie.

I am a huge apes fan,and I have been excited ever since they announced this movie.I can't wait.

I hope this version is better than the Walberg one.

I just got back from seeing this.

Was really good. The CGI effects for the apes was really well done.

8/10.

Yes what I like is the new digital technology which we saw in Avator which allows the apes to all have looks of their own very much like humans. The apes played by actors in capture suits and headgear allow us to see the actors facial expressions making em look amazing and real.
Great fun for sure and I guess you got from the last scene the real possibility of a sequel.
Go see it guys

Very good film.
8/10.

Surprisingly good.

If you have Cable or Satellite just check the TV Guide. Networks have been rotating the Apes Saga...

I'm surprised the SyFy network has gone Ape CRAZY this week...
