Rising Gay Icons

Kathy Griffin. Would she be considered a gay icon? Her following is mostly made up of gay men. So I guess so. And she's relatively new. Kinda. I'll think of some better ones.

Oh lord thank you! Right now I mostly have actors and singers so that's a great add to the list.

Oh, BTW, why Cher is a gay icon? I also read somewhere else but I'm too young to know things during her most popular years.

I guess Ms. Jennifer Hudson said in an interview that she is very PRO-gay and with an amazing, I'm sure, album coming out (hehe) soon she is going to BLOW UP and with that she'll definitely have a very big gay fanbase (myself included LOVE HER).

Also, I'm not too sure but I have a feeling Salma Hayek is very PRO-gay. She always looks stunning and I'm sure it's because of an amazing set of hair/make up/ style people she always has around her (which consists of tons of gay men I'm sure)

Eva Longoria has many close gay male friends around her.

JLo of course!

Gael Garcia Bernal & Diego Luna recently defended the rights for gays to marry in Mexico earlier last month. Aside from their obvious hotness gay guys I'm sure will love them for their political stances on pro-gay issues as well.

Woot! Adds J Hud to the list--Gael might be a good idea too. He gained quite a gay following from Bad Education

nvzblmn continues to prove he really is only 12. He just sent me this PM:

"omfg stfu!

gtfo, n00b!!! lolololol"

Please, grow up and/or leave.

Anyway definitely add Kelly Clarkson. EVERY single lesbian I know absolutely LOVES HER for some reason. She does kinda give off the lezzie vibe.

As far as Gwen Stefani's opinion goes, I looked up a recent interview by GayWired.com.

"GW: Hollaback Girl and What You Waiting For? were inescapable in gay clubs all over the country for months. Were you aware that you were becoming an official gay icon?

GS: I'm always in awe of the energy, love and support I get from my gay fans. I wasn't surprised as much as I was ecstatic and humbled. I worked really hard on that album and to see it connect with everyone on so many different levels—it makes what I've worked so hard for, all the more worthwhile. I want the community to know that I feel ‘em and I'm glad they are feelin’ me.

GW: Justin Timberlake was put on the spot to give his opinion when fellow ‘NSync-er Lance Bass came out of the closet. So, how would you react and what would you say if any of your No Doubt band mates ever came out of the closet?

GS: I would support him, or anyone for that matter, 100-percent in coming out."

Icons earn it, PERIOD, An exampe of a true icon might be : Piaf / Ella Fitzgerald / etc. All these high-flown contemporaries suggest something much less.......!!!!:grrr:

While I still find it unnecessary to carve out our own little niche in the world with every god damn category known to man. If it is going to be done I suggest you create some sort of criteria. An icon is not just some one who you are a fan of but some one who's you look up to and want to be. I don't think it's enough to have "gay fans" I think they should've had done something tangible to make them and admirable human being.

i.e. Ellen Degeneres outed herself while she was in primetime and allthough her show was shortly there after canceled (coincidence huh?) she continued to perserve through two more cancelled shows before becoming huge.

Or Brad and Angelina claiming they won't get married until everyone can. Or Alanis re-releasing "Ironic" to include "meeting the man of your dreams and meeting his beautiful husband" to show her support for gay marriage. If there are going to be icon's for the gay community shouldn't there have done somethink for the gay community instead of assuming we all listen to the same music.

And last thought... just because Jake is pretty doesn't mean Heath Ledger didn't have just as much, or more to be most accurate, to do with Brokeback.

And my real last thought... T. K. (R.?) Knight he's a young succesul gay man in the buisness who from what I can tell doesn't portray stereotypes or screamabout being gay every three seconds (cough Rosie cough) And I really admire that, that he has choosen to be a regular man who is gay rather than a gay man.

DAVID BECKHAM!!!!!

Why? He's and open minded guy who likes gays and is flattered to be admired by us. He has been in gay magazines' photospreads posing almost naked and he's so confident he has no problem with gay people. I love him. And he's so stylish.
