I wonder what the results would be if homosexuals - especially those of younger years - switched to classical music and Broadway musicals? Not only might it improve their advantages from not getting AIDS it might go along way toward improving the sexual lives and their ability to meet and establish quality relationships.

Personally, I think there is a lot of validity to the contents of the article. So why did I not post it earlier in the week? Explain that one to me.

social commentary by the local village idiot, and we all know his knowledge about homosexual's sexual behaviours.

I just wish that fans of Hip Hop had a higher incidence of death-by-heavy-object.

FUCK, I hate that crap.

So it's really the music and not the grey carpet and track lighting?

My favorite sentence in the article is:

The study did not imply listening to certain types of music causes HIV infection but simply found links between genres and risk factors.

Why doesn't Yahoo! just have a special page called "for morons only?"

Who's most likely to listen to gospel? African-American people, who are scientifically shown to be more prone to HIV.

Who's most likely to listen to techno and pop? Gay people.

I just did the same study for FAR less money.

But it is true, one hears more techno music in barebacking movies than one hears bling bling hip hop in them.

And one hardly ever hears John Denver, much to my chagrin. :p

There are so many different variables in the social system this study is examining that ascribing cause and effect is probably impossible.

Ahh, but if you had limited funds to do a radio advertising campaign to promote condom use this study might lead you to select christian radio stations as being your ideal target audience. te he he he

I'd love to see that happen, only to see how many radios across the land would catch fire all at the same time when the ad aired!

I'm usually much more of a lurker than a poster, but given that I have a bit of experience working with statistics I felt compelled to reply...

Basically, without going too far into details, all they did was divide people into groups of "straight music" and "gay music" (obviously, these categories don't apply to all straight or gay people, but I am referring to the statistical trends) and found that people who listen to "gay music" are more likely to be at risk for AIDS.

In other words, all that they really showed was that homosexuals (or, rather, people who have preferences that are more often characteristic of homosexuals) are at higher risk to contract HIV... how is this news again? (If they had actually controlled for obvious covariants such as sexual orientation, or had not divided the groups of music in such an obviously biased way, their results might actually hold some validity).

Anyway, I'm sure that wasn't a very good explanation and nobody probably cared all that much... but yeah.

So ok.

I listen to metal.

does that mean I can bareback safely?

^Yes. There is nothing that could ever harm a metal head.

You can start with ME.

No, I'm with you dude -- correlation does not imply causation.

Every time my neighbor goes to church I go out and have brunch. Does that mean his religiosity causes my food-fabulosity? No -- they're both caused by a third thing, namely Sunday morning.

Same thing here. They might as well have said, men who like to eat watermelon and are especially good at basketball, or who have limp wrists and lip sync to Judy Garland records, are more likely to get HIV. It's about that subtle.

I'm a gay white male that likes pop and is uncircumsized. I practically have AIDS by statistics.
