I hate rite aid. they have the worst sellection of products.

is it just me or are we getting less and less choices all the time as consumers?

I don't like Rite-Aid either. Several years ago they were close to going out of bussness, but restructured and closed some stores, and now they are buing other comapanys!! I guess that is a good bussness turn around, but I still won't shop with them.

Wait a minute....Okay....

CVS has been the big giant killer buying up stores like Osco, Revco, and many other chains.

Walgreens is expanding like crazy in the Northeast. In the Rochester area they want to knock down historical buildings in two different towns to put in their version of the corner drugstore (one building is an 1830's Stagecoach Inn, and the other is an 1890's Baptist church).

Now I knew that Eckerd's was owned by JC Penney. But Penney's sold off the chain in pieces. Some stores went to CVS, which converted them to their own brand. Then the remainder of them kept the Eckerd name and were bought by Jean Coutu, a large Quebec chain (which I have shopped at in Canada, and liked).

So.....How is Rite Aid involved? They are owned by Jean Coutu also? I didn't know that! While it would make business sense to put the stores under one brand name, (ala Macy's) it does kill any regional flavor the stores might have.

I worked at Rite-Aid... they fired me. I hope they go bankrupt

It's just the natural, capitalist cycle. Bigger firms buy out the "mom & pop" operations until everyone gets sick and tired of not having options and decide that they're willing to spend a little more money to shop at the independent boutique type stores.

Don't like CVS, JCPenney, or Walgreens? (Or, Wal-Mart for that matter, although I just read that they're partnering with gay groups.) Don't shop there. Pay your money to go where you can find the products you like.

Ron, Jean does NOT own Rite Aid. After the sale, he will have a 30% stake in Rite Aid, however. Essentially, it is a case of a weaker #3 & 4 combining to take on #1 & 2 (Walgreens, CVS). I know a guy who works for Eckerd and he is nervous about his job.

My niece works at rite aid as a pharmacist. She hates the chain, and says they are cheap, and don't care about their customers. She worked for a private pharmacy before this and it was forced to close.

I never seemed to like Rite Aid, and we have them here along with CVS and Brooks and Walgreen.

I miss JM Fields

I remember that store from back east also. That and Two Guys.

as for Rite Aid, they suck here in SoCal also. I switched prescriptions to Sav-On (now CVS) a long time ago due to terrible customer service.

:-)

YaY at least it will now lower the number of useless "drugstores" from 4 to 3. Its so retarted because they put themselves directly across the street from eachother. Even on the Las Vegas Strip where property value is outrageous, CVS and Wallgreens are STILL right across the street from eachother.

We used to go to a locally owned drug store until CVS bought out his customer list (he closed his store) and opened up a new store across the street. Now I'm not sure what we'll do.

I hate national chains. They don't care about the customer at all because you're just one of 300 million potential customers (in the US, that is).
