What do you think, is this a good choice? I was surprised by it. Last I'd heard, they were still trying for Tom Cruise (thank God its not). I was unsure about it at first, but the more I think about it, it could work. This will be his first action/adventure movie, so it could be interseting!;)

Anyone would be better than Cruise. When he's sober,Robert Downey Jr. is a great actor...

I think it's inspired casting. Both Robert Downey Jr. and Tony Stark have/had issues with substance abuse. I was worried when they mentioned Terrance Howard for the role, but it turned out he was approached to play War Machine/Jim Rhoades. It should be a cool movie if both of them are on board and Jon Favreau directing.

I agree, Downy is inspired casting. He's a great actor to begin with and I can already picture him as Tony Stark. I tend to think that's going to be the important aspect as Iron Man is a character with whom we never see a face. Much like Tobey Maguire and Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I think this will work.

I'm not completely sold on RDJ but he would be much much better than Tom, and Terrance Howard as War Machine/Jim Rhoades sounds awesome. I'm however likeing most of what I hear.

He is a great actor and hope he does a great job with the part. Maybe he is even buff out a little.

I don't know, can Downey Jr. really portray the incredibly tool-ish nature of Tony Stark? I mean, it's a lot of tool to pretend to be. I almost think it's impossible for a human actor to protray in a realm of reality.

But I digress.

I wonder what/who the villain will be for this one?

I read somewhere that The Mandarin will be the villain du jour for this production.

Well, you know, given his current trends, Iron Man will probably be forced to decide between fighting him or supporting his evil plans. He'll make the wrong decision and probably become his ally. You know, given Tool's long standing history on making good decisions.

People should bring screwdrivers and hammers to this movie premiere when it comes out.

And magnets! Don't forget those magnets. I went and bought a nice set of multi-colored alphabet magnets for just this occasion. I'll be able to spell "Tool" and "Ass." :D

From www.joblo.com:

I gotta give some props to Jon Favreau - this is some cast he's putting together for IRON MAN. Paramount and Marvel today announce that Gwyneth Paltrow has signed on to co-star as Pepper Potts, secretary and love interest to Iron Man's alter ego Tony Stark. So far three actors - Robert Downey, Jr., Terrence Howard and Paltrow - and all of them are Oscar nominees (Paltrow winning for SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE). Rachel McAdams had been one of the actresses rumored to be in the running but Marvel had been holding out for "someone like Gwyneth Paltrow" and when it became known she might be interested, the deal happened rather quickly. For what it's worth, Paltrow doesn't physically seem like a perfect match for the "pug-nosed, freckle-faced" Girl Friday with auburn hair. But Paltrow's nothing if not a great actress and I'm sure she'll make the part her own. It's almost hard to believe that after years and years in development hell, IRON MAN is actually going to start filming in just two months. Should be a fun ride as things pick up (and Comic Con '07 certainly is heating up...).

He's actually not a bad actor....

I just don't know if he can pull off the action, as well as Tony's constant womanizing ways...

We'll just have to wait and see I suppose...

I just gotta say it:

...or if he can portay Tony's tool-hardy mannerisms. Tooooollll!
