More than just floated - California has a program that they are trying out called "CARE Court" that is intended to try to get treatment and housing for the most severely mentally ill- particularly those with schizophrenia and mood disorders who are medication non-compliant or who have concomitant substance use issues. They have good intentions but there are some issues that need to be worked on. There's also a lot of issues with the operators of non-governmental mental health facilities.

Paris Hilton created a career of appearing to be a bimbo, so it worked against her when she campaigned against residential psychiatric facilities a few years back. We did get most of the for-profit operators put out of business in the early 90s, but the the not-for-profit programs still have a criminal justice pipeline that feeds them a steady population of people from the state court systems.

Leave it to another bimbo, RFK Jr, to try to super-charge an industry known for its abuses. Also, why would the Feds get involved in a problem that is in States' purview?

Measles was eradicated in the United States; now we have a major outbreak in Texas. I notice the ignorant claiming that "well then just go get vaccinated if you're worried." The problem is that the measles vaccine uses a weakened virus to build immunity. So immunocompromised people cannot get the vaccine; instead they rely on the herd effort to be immunized so they don't catch it. People really need to learn vaccines, and more importantly, history.

I was in a new study for the RSV vaccine. It is likely that when I was born I was diagnosed with asthma and spent nearly a month before my first birthday in and out of hospitals. As they prepared me for the study, I had antibodies of RSV. It was a common mistake at the time and the "cure" was massive doses of the new penicillin drug. I cannot take it today because of reactions. The RSV study I have been in is now cancelled; I wonder how many young children and older adults will die because of the ignorance and death wish of this administration? And if I hear anyone put "pro-life" and this administration in the same sentence, I am likely to box their ears!

Kennedy ascribes to the backwards thought that if we just let children get childhood diseases, we don't need to vaccinate them all. So, he sees no problem with allowing his grandchildren to bathe in streams that are known to be teaming with coliform bacteria.

That is true but it was not just an agrarian practice. Kids in the cities were often tasked to generate income for the family around age 7. By age 13, their pedagogical education ended and the boys were sent off to apprenticeships and the girls were often sent to assist wealthy families as domestic servants.

There was another recent post about how states like Florida are changing their labor laws to allow children as young as 14 to work after school. It's all part of a long tradition of Christian beliefs that idle children are Satan's playthings.
