I tend toward more of the melodic side of rock - so more Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots, from your list. I especially like Matthew Sweet and the Foo Fighters. Newer stuff I'm liking (which may or may not fall completely in this category): Terra Diablo, Brand New, Karma to Burn (RIP), and Wolf & Cub.

I like symphonic metal, like Nightwish, Within Temptation and Leaves' Eyes. I also like Lacuna Coil (I think they'd be classed as gothic metal).

As for alt. rock, I like Evanescence, Garbage, Muse, Green Day and more
