On-Topic Romney Got 2010 Tax Benefits Based on "Acitve Role" in Bain Capital

I'm sure the President's re-election campaign - think Charlie Sheen in Wall St. going thru files dressed up as a clean up guy

will find/has found/will create STUFF

there isn't anything they won't say or do to keep things status quo in the WH

I'm worried you're starting to lose your reason. How is that different from the RNC finding/creating STUFF and the fact that there isn't anything THEY won't say or do to get back into power?

Ann Romney was right - the discussion doesn't help Mittens

Well if Eva Peron doesn't like it we should, by all means, just drop it then. We little people OWE it to him, after all, to make things as easy as possible.

the entire Obama re-election campaign has been a "look at that over there" exercise

The whole Obama PRESIDENCY has been a "look at that over there" exercise, by YOUR side.

but it's a diversion - the entire Obama re-election campaign has been a "look at that over there" exercise

Hope and change baby

Don't worry, Chance, it was post vacation. I didn't bring my computer with me.

Aren't you concerned, however, that this information reflects badly on Mittens' truthfulness? Reality with him is a moving target. He simply doesn't come clean about anything. I would think better of him if he owned up to and was honest about his business past. The fact that he doesn't defend himself on the particular attacks on his business past suggests that he knows what he did is not defensible.

"it's the economy stupid." Romney is too smart to let you detract from the issues by getting him to defend an infinite list of attacks on his past.

nope

Polls show there are more people worried about Mitt's taxes than they are about the economy. Shocking, right? clutch pearls!

That's cause he would be in charge of theirs, and they want to see his first. It's like applying for a job or getting a house. You have to show you are honest and have honest intentions of paying debt or doing a job when you state you will. Romney asked Ryan for more Tax returns than he gave all of us.

people are very put off and dislike Romney. Romney and the president have a thirty point gap in likability, as opposed to the ten to fifteen percent point lead Romney has on the business thing.

People don't vote for someone they don't like. They may say they do, but the history of american politics shows that the most popular guy usually wins.

the real message this election is....

Who is more trustworthy, stupid.

Yes.

As my sister the engineer, usually predictably Republican, said in an email, when you want someone to fix your breakfast, would you rather pick the guy who's likely to not get your eggs quite done, or the one who first has to be taught what an egg is?

Let's see if I'm reading this correctly. If Staples opened in 1986 and Romney "hung around" for close to 15 years, wouldn't that make him leaving Staples in 2000 or 2001? He says Romney and Bain invested in Staples. Another person making a gaffe?

The Romney Record: STAPLES

Mitt Romney and Bain Capital invested in Staples as a startup to give it a chance to grow. Today it provides 89,000 jobs at stores and distribution centers across the country.

In 1986, Staples opened its first store in Brighton, Massachusetts. Today, Staples operates more than 1,500 stores and 56 distribution centers across 49 states and the District of Columbia. In 2011, Staples had more than $25 billion in sales.

Staples founder Tom Stemberg recalls Mitt’s role in the company: “Mitt didn’t just invest in Staples when it was an idea — he hung around as a member of the board of directors for close to 15 years and I’ve been on some very good boards with some great directors. I would still rate him as the single best corporate director I’ve ever worked with . . . He was the inspirational leader and while Staples may have existed without him, I doubt it would have been nearly as big or successful without him.”

Romney can't have run for Governor Unless he was attending Bain meetings. This is really maddening for people from Massachusetts, because he used Bain to prove he was here in mass doing business and therefore was legally allowed to run for Gov here.

Now he does this etch a Sketch thing and it's frustrating

No matter how many times we say it, no one listens.

He said that he was at Bain until 2002 in this state to run for rGovernor. Thats what he did. Either he lied and perjured himself then or he is doing it now.

The retroactive retirement BS is the Key. You don't retroactively quit. I cant say, I am going to retroactively quit JUB. None of my posts exist.

I would get laughed out of the room.

The Republican JUBers don't care that Mittens is a pathological liar. They just deny he lies. Typical Republican nonsense. Let's face it most Republicans don't believe in evolution, climate change, or any fact based argument. Facts just get in the way of ideology for them.

In the GOP of thirty years ago, Obama could have gotten their nomination (except for that skin color). He has led as an old-school Republican would, though without the stern determination -- he's too much of a wuss.

But today, the GOP is reactionary and very, very authoritarian, so Obama is viewed as (without any evidence) a socialist.

The alternative is too horrible to contemplate.

What is a nightmare to some is a dream for others. ;)

I have always thought that Obama was right of center. His actions are more Reagan than Clinton.

Obama does not feel your pain. Hell I don't know that he feels. I keep waiting for the passion from the speeches to show up in his work but.... just long game calculations and oratory skills to cover the fact that he is the executive dream act man, while under him more illegals were found, detained and expelled than any other presidency, even the 8 year ones... and he's only just begun.

His Healthcare is a Nixon Blowjob. Actually compared to Nixon's healthcare plan, he is a business loving monster. Romneycare was built to force the poor to pay for their own healthcare to give the businesses a break.

Lets not even GET to cap and trade, a concept ENTIRELY of the GOP's making. Obama in trying to pander to the GOP to get votes, wound up forcing the GOP into crazyland far right loonieville.

They either had to go for his offers, go left, or radicalize to the right.

Now they are set to lose an election that they ought to be ten points ahead in at this point, and the GOP has virtually nothing to campaign on because Obama did their last agenda for them.

What amuses me is that conservatives don't realize that if you dig down into the polls, you will find that the erosion is on the progressive side. From Guantanamo, the patriot act, cap and trade, not allowing the gov't budget to expand for the first time in history in the midst of a recession almost gave Krugman a stroke.

So my suspicions of why he the progressives question him is clear. Most of the people that don't like Obamacare, or the ACA are people that wanted the private option, IE the progressives.

Now we are having a base election because Obama moved the goal post. I think Historians will take years to unpack the Obama presidency, and what they will find there will shock the nation.

If he has a brain, he will file amended returns containing the right political effects, have them processed, and then "release his tax returns."

We had a corrupt (or stupid; it was never proven which) Prime Minister who forgot to declare a bunch of income he earned, in the form of cash-stuffed envelopes, "for promoting spaghetti."

Fortunately he was able to remember in time to revise his prior year tax returns. ALL IS WELL.

Wow. I'm going to say WELCOME BACK again; this is the sort of solidly argued out-of-the-box analysis we've missed around here. Agree or not, this gives something of substance to actually think about and respond to rationally.

In there is a fact that Republicans refuse to look at because it totally refutes their accusation of Obama is a big spender: federal spending under him has not grown, it has (to borrow a local liberal's word, one said with disgust) stagnated. He has achieved an effective freeze in government spending -- which in a good economy would mean the deficit would be closing; and in fact the only reason the deficit isn't closing is the intransigence of the Tea Party wing of the GOP. That's a miracle of sorts; I don't know that any president has ever managed to keep government sp[ending level through a recession without making things worse.

Your last point is, well, pointed. Republicans love to point out that people don't like "Obamacare", but they fail to see which side a large number of the complaints are coming from. I suspect you're right, that the most common gripe is actually that the legislation was far too Republican. To me its biggest drawback is it does absolutely nothing to address one of the biggest headaches of health care: the complexity and burden of dealing with insurance companies.

Meanwhile, Obama has been leading in the exact way he would if he meant to deceive the country and then totally changing his tune in a second term....
