Bill White, owner of a New York consulting firm, has asked for a refund of his maximum contribution to the Romney campaign according to the Huffington Post. White is openly gay and has now switched sides and is supporting Obama.

I presume you mean this:

"I feel that I no longer wish to support your presidential campaign and ask that you please return the maximum contribution that I gave to you last year," Bill White wrote in a letter addressed to the former Massachusetts governor and obtained by CNN.

"You have chosen to be on the wrong side of history and I do not support your run for president any longer," White added.

Nicely symbolic. But will it have further impact?

This was the kicker:

"You have chosen to be on the wrong side of history and I do not support your run for president any longer," White added.

But... but... you agree with him on other issues like the economy. Don't tell me the economy goes on the back burner when it comes to your civil rights as a gay man.

Where are the other gay GOP?

Maybe a hopeful sign of things to come?

I can teach someone economics if they seem a little clueless.

But the only way to survive someone on his theocratic moral high horse who undermines our basic human equality and dignity is to drive them into political oblivion.

My economic interests survive only when carried by my recognition as an equal human being. That's what's on the front burner of the stove.

^ I fail to understand why the pocket book homo Republicans can't get this simple fact.

I still suspect that a lot of Romney's homo support comes from white guys who are still uncomfortable with the idea of a black president.

Or who somehow think that by being rich enough, or at least secure enough, it allows them to ignore the little 'inconvenience' of them being second class citizens in their own country.

Romney is a loser. He lost from McCain, who lost from Obama.

But the worst thing about him I think: Romney is not trustworthy.

And he's not in touch with reality. It's like he's acting all the time. In a very bad b-movie.

If gay marriage is so important to Mr. White, why was he supporting Romney in the first place?

Romney (we think) has been opposed to gay marriage since the beginning of this campaign. In fact, Romney has opposed even civil unions, which Obama has (at least) supported. Romney hasn't modified his position one bit. And Obama has only said he thinks personally that gay marriage would be okay - he's not advocating any change in the law.

"'You have chosen to be on the wrong side of history and I do not support your run for president any longer,' said White." Fine, but Romney was on the same wrong side of history back when White supported him.

I agree. There is something weird about Romney.

He has no emotional intelligence, and no ability to empathize with humans or animals.

It's rather strange, and I think the plastic veneer is Romney's attempt to cover for what he realizes is something not quite right within himself.

This is what I'd mentioned in another thread.

He seems to suffer from some sort of sociopathy, either as a result of his upbringing or as a facet of his personality.

He would not be the first person to come to power with this defect.

If they went with him 4 years ago he might have had a better chance. If they wouldn't have gone with Palin as VP then. Back then he was sorta believable as a moderate conservative. Now he's in an impossible split between working the Tea Party-crowd ('I'm an extreme conservative') and trying to attract independent voters at the same time.

But for Obama supporters it's important not to rule him out, or become complacent. Hopefully it will be a fair match. And let's hope this time around they won't get situations like McCain had with "he's a terrorist" or "kill him" at rallies. If that happens it would be quite ironic though, cause Obama ordered the killing of the biggest terrorist in the world.
