Romney says he will loan his campaign more money
story.romneymoney.jpg
Romney said Monday will give money to his campaign for a second time.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who is estimated to be worth at least $250 million, said Monday he will make a second contribution to his presidential effort. He called the move a “nightmare.”
Romney, who loaned his campaign over $2 million in January, said he was forced to make a second loan in order to continue to get his message out and finance advertising in crucial campaign states. The Massachusetts Republican declined to say how much he will give his campaign this quarter.
“It would be nice not to have to loan or contribute to your own campaign,” he told reporters during an all day national fundraising call event on Boston. “But the reality is if you want to have a strong campaign that gets out there and can talk across the nation, you’re going to have to do what’s necessary. If other people are making sacrifices, I sure have to as well.”
“It’s not a dream come true. In some respects, it’s kind of a nightmare to write checks from your own bank account,” he added.
Romney, who was little known beyond his home state when he launched his presidential bid, has steadily aired commercials in Iowa and New Hampshire since February. He said Monday that his campaign has already spent $3 million on television advertising. His chief rivals for the GOP nomination, Arizona Sen. John McCain and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, have yet to run television ads.
Including his own donation in the first quarter of 2007, Romney raised $23 million — a total well ahead of the other Republican presidential candidates. He predicted Monday that he would raise less in the second quarter, which ends Saturday, but said the campaign has more than doubled the number of contributors.

Mittboy was a disaster as Massachusetts Governor, never mind his stand on gay issues, etc. Be gone and take the rest of your Republicans with you!

Well, gee whiz.....you poor thing. I mean, the very idea that you might actually have to foot part of the bill for your bid to be the "leader of the free world." Simply scandalous, I say!!!!!!!

Just curious,
If we are limited to the amount we can donate to a campaign, wouldn't this money from him to his campaign be considered a donation and limited as we are?

I am fine with him throwing his money away! I find it sort of fitting! The more he loses on his insanity the better, I say!

Well Bloomberg actually has enough to run... indeed I probably would vote for him, of course I would have voted for Perot too but he imploded and if Bloomberg is killin one candidate or another whichever party is connected will pay him to shut the fuck up. I would also have to know his position and I can't begin to think that our system works any other way. Of course even if he doesn't run I may tell the polls that just to be part of the margin of error, such a small select group.

^ :D

Well, the speculation that I heard from the Sunday Morning talking heads, is that Bloomberg will wait to see who the party nominees are at the end of next winter.

If he doesn't like what he sees, then chances are he'll jump into the race. If for no other reason than to help shape the debate.

Much like Perot did in '92.

Either way, I see a third party candidate taking away votes from the Republicans this time around. ;)

If Romney is still in the race by Christmas, I'll drive to Memphis and take you and your hubby out for a plate of ribs.

LOL. Thats a deal. I tell ya what if Edwards is still in I will treat you to ribs after you drive here :)

I was going to go back and say that the only votes Bloomberg will garner is the serious investment conservative type who will look at it as voting for a Chair.

Isn't anyone concerned about Mitt's use of the word "loan"? I mean, how do you loan money to a political campaign? Does he expect the taxpayers to pay him back if he gets elected? If so, can I get all of my contributions to political campaigns back? I mean, hey JFK, Jimmy, and Bill, that money I sent you guys was a loan right. I could use it now, because my Social Security income isn't enough to survive on in today's world.

affirmative

it means that if his campaign is still solvent after his candidacy ends, he will be entitled to all the millions back and he will put them back into his personal bank account

charming isn't it?
