Ron Paul plans to keep donation from white supremacist donor

If he's so against Blacks, you might want to ask yourself why he polls the highest amongst Blacks compared to all the rest of the entire GOP. And you may also want to ask why he has Walter Williams, a Black Economist, in consideration for a Running Mate.

I can see apparently you didn't read any of those articles above ... or simply dismissed them.

That's fine. Because this is obviously all you got on Paul. No scandals. No nothing.

^Because any African American that is a Republican has a self image problem to begin with, and that includes Justice Thomas, Allan Keyes and most particularly Walter Williams. How many black Republicans are there, anyway?

I did read several of the links and found them totally unconvincing. I don't have any grounds to question Paul's sincerity, but all those positions are ideological positions that could easily be used to cover other motives. The effect of his position is paralysis, a "principled" excuse to do nothing not unlike Bush's "principles".

Paul To Keep Supremacist Donation

Usually when a candidate receives a campaign donation from a disreputable donor, the money either gets returned or donated to a charity. Ron Paul wants to be a maverick, however, so he will keep the $500 from Stormfront founder Don Black. Paul claims his own campaign as a charity, in a sense:
Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has received a $500 campaign donation from a white supremacist, and the Texas congressman doesn't plan to return it, an aide said Wednesday. Don Black, of West Palm Beach, recently made the donation, according to campaign filings. He runs a Web site called Stormfront with the motto, "White Pride World Wide." The site welcomes postings to the "Stormfront White Nationalist Community."
"Dr. Paul stands for freedom, peace, prosperity and inalienable rights. If someone with small ideologies happens to contribute money to Ron, thinking he can influence Ron in any way, he's wasted his money," Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said. "Ron is going to take the money and try to spread the message of freedom."
"And that's $500 less that this guy has to do whatever it is that he does," Benton added.
Sorry, but that doesn't sell. It's one thing to get a donation from a neo-Nazi; after all, Paul didn't solicit it. It's another thing entirely to keep the money after its source becomes clear. Keeping the money makes it look like the campaign approves of the source, and that is a very, very bad message to send when one is bragging about the success of recent money-bomb events.
What kind of money will Ron Paul refuse? Drug money? Extortion rackets? Mob skim? Those are the questions people will want answered. Paul's response does not give confidence in the judgment of his campaign, and by extension its candidate.
UPDATE: Allahpundit has a must-read on this topic.
UPDATE II and BUMP: I'm bumping this to sit below the Hot Seat question so people can follow the thread more closely. If you're visiting here from AOL for the first time, click on the Home tag at the top and take a look around!
UPDATE III: Charles has some interesting info on alleged connections between Paul and the supremacists. The "commander" of the neo-Nazis wrote a message on the group's website detailing the frequent meetings between Paul and his group at a Thai restaurant, and LGF has the link to Paul's FEC statements that show him picking up the tab there more than once.

Re: Ron Paul - look under the hood

He made claer why he took the cash. I like him for keeping it. He says up front why and wont bend to the pressure other people place on him. Don't get me wrong i really dont think he is goin anywhere but I like his style. We need more leaders that do not jump through their asses to please the next person who cries foul. I mean really have you ever worked for an ass kisser? It always sucks. Same goes for the top job in the country.

Dr. Paul grinning it up with Don Black, owner and proprieter of Stormfront

Hillary Clinton grinning it up at the White House with Norman Hsu, known Felon who contributed over $750,000 to her campaign in a Ponzi scheme.

But that was just in passing, right? Hillary takes lots of photographs with lots of people, right?

Well, maybe the same with Paul. He himself in the FOX interview said he didn't even know who he was.

I like Paul's record a lot better than I like Hillary's record, that's for sure. Paul's taken no money from lobbyists, either. I trust his interests are with the American people more than I do Hillary's.

Here you are caucasian. You still haven't explained why Paul has the most support amongst Black Republicans. You're more concerned about it, then apparently they are ... which is laughable.

You aren't obviously as much concerned about Paul's supposed racist beliefs. Rather, you are attacking him in playing Partisan Politics. Go ahead and admit it.

On the contrary, I don't attack Hillary for Partisan Politics. I attack her because I vehemently disagree with her character, I feel she says what everyone wants to hear to get elected, I feel she is the most Pro War of all of your candidates, and I feel, like many others, that she is a Bush Democrat.

I do however, speak up for Edwards and I would Obama, if he didn't have Clinton advisers on his staff.

I had the impression that Mr Paul's main issues were with Jews ( sorry Zionists!), not African Americans.

I had the impression that Mr Paul's main issues were with Jews ( sorry Zionists!), not African Americans.

His main issue is with America's Neo-Conservative and Globalist Foreign Policy, which yes includes militarily defending Israel.

Then you have every right to disagree with Paul, if you lived here. His domestic pursuits are not an issue to you; his foreign policy, however, is very much so. Compared to the rest of those running for that nomination, Paul is the only Republican that passes, even better than some of the Democrats. Let the Republicans cannibalize their own. Don't give credence to unsubstantiated allegations that obviously benefit the worst.
Actually his domestic pursuits DO concern the outside world! For example, if his economic policies torpedo the U.S economy ours are affected as well. Or if his policies cause a boom, our economies are generally dragged up with them. Another is, for example, enviromental policy- a cut in emission standard for, say coal fired plants, can cause acid fallout in Canada and as far away as Europe. Domestic policies don't just stop at arbitary borders.

I have no idea whether Paul is a racist or not and I see no reason to either accept or reject his contention that he is not. The fact remains that the effect of his ideas would be to tolerate racism at the state and private level. By being opposed to any government enforcement of anti discrimination laws Paul, in effect, tolerates racism. He elevates the right to discriminate above the individual rights of minority groups. The fact that Walter Washington, Justice Thomas and Alan Keyes agree with him does not lessen the effect of his position. He would tolerate racism, anti-semitism and anti-gay prejudice and is intolerable of democratic measures address these problems. Paul may feel it is a matter of principle but the outcome would still tolerate discrimination.

Does Paul really believe that if we allowed corporations that employ thousands of people or apartment complexes that house hundreds of people to discriminate against blacks or jews or gays or whatever this would be a better country? Why are the private rights of company owners more important than the right of individuals to work and live as they wish?

I detect sarcasm and perhaps a carryover from some previous discussion.

Not really. Just trying to figure out from much older, wiser heads how to figure out how someone is racist or not. You can't begrudge me from learning from your acquired wisdom.

However, just to make one point perfectly clear~ please recognize that Mr. Black is a public figure – not a fellow poster.

No, he's a member of the Minutemen. Mike Huckabee is a fellow poster. One that makes a lot of sense. So much so, I'm considering even voting for him.

Oh, Snapcat, wherefort are thou Snapcat?

I agree that the money need not be returned. Once you separate the fool from his money, you can use the money against him. The problem is whether Rep. Paul is a closet white supremacist.

Even if RP was a closet white supremacist, there's no way anyone - including his libertarian supporters - would let him get away with any white supremacy.
