Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

OWN itself won't be around too much longer anyway. She took a gamble that her name could carry a network..and she lost.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

>>>All of this will take years to work...This will NEVER happen over-night for a New Network....Comcast, Direct TV, TimeWarner Cable, Dish Network do not plan on letting Oprah or Discovery go anytime soon...

>>>Oprah Winfrey Network Lays Off One-Fifth Of Staff

This suggests that perhaps she's NOT in it for the long haul. Unless she really bloated the payroll at the outset.

Lex

I agree...She's done this before. She used to own most of the Oxygen network before selling her interest to NBC/Universal.

ABC Gambled when it put an unknown woman named Oprah Winfrey up against The Mighty Phil Donahue...We all know how that venture turned out...

Oprah also gambled airing the AMAZING "Welcome to Sweetie pies" reality series on OWN and it became the HEART of Reality TV and the most watched show on the network...Viewers that don't like that particular Reality-show usually have no idea what Family unity means...The show pulls at your heart strings and some people prefer Trash TV..

You never know what's gonna work and it's up to the paid Cable & Satellite Subscribers to let the Nielsen Rating company know...

>>>ABC Gambled when it put an unknown woman named Oprah Winfrey up against The Mighty Phil Donahue...We all know how that venture turned out...

First off, Oprah showed good ratings vs Donahue from the outset. She didn't dethrone him on day one, but her ratings were respectable enough to keep the show going.

Secondly, we live in the microwave culture now. Back in the 60s and 70s, for instance, bands got three and four album deals with record labels, and the label let them grow and try new things as they worked on building an audience. Now? You're a hit or you're shit. If your first single doesn't catch on, they won't promote a second one, and you won't be picked up for another album. Same idea with TV shows and networks. They don't want results soon. They don't want results tomorrow. They demand results NOW.

>>>it's up to the paid Cable & Satellite Subscribers to let the Nielsen Rating company know..

They do let the Nielsen folk know. That's how they know what ratings the network has. This isn't to say the shows or network doesn't have their fans - they obviously do. There simply aren't enough of them to support the enterprise right now. And if Oprah was committed to this for the long haul, she'd work further on developing new programming and/or promoting the programming that's currently on. And you don't do that by letting 20% of your staff go.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

I feel America gave up on Rosie after her problems on The View. If Rosie was smart, she would give up on TV and find other ways to use her talents.

LOL WUT? Problems? You mean Elizabeth Hasselbeck? Rosie rightfully tore her to shreds and it was TV gold.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

The only good thing is O will still has all her moolah after this is over. I just don't think what made her think a 24/7 showing of "uplifting" happy go lucky therapy shows would last. Even the best of networks dabble in the crazy and fun type of shows. Everyone needs to watch a show on occasion that is just "fattening". And who wants to see reruns of dr phil?

Rosie O'Donnell Suffers a Heart Attack

Calling it a "miracle" she's still alive, Rosie O'Donnell suffered a heart attack last week and is now recovering at home.

O'Donnell, 50, credited her survival to quick Internet research on her painful symptoms and a Bayer aspirin she had seen recommended in ads.

"Thank god/saved by a tv commercial/literally," she wrote Monday in her usual verse form on her blog.

O'Donnell said she had a stent inserted after doctors found that her coronary artery was 99 percent blocked. In a statement on Monday, her rep Cindi Berger tells PEOPLE, "She is now home and resting comfortably. She is very, very lucky."

"They call this type of heart attack/the Widow Maker/i am lucky to be here," she wrote.

Earlier this month, O'Donnell, 50, shared the news that her fiancée Michelle Rounds was diagnosed with desmoid tumors, a very rare affliction.

O'Donnell said her own health problems started on Aug. 14 after she helped "an enormous woman" struggling to get out of her car in a parking lot in Nyack, N.Y.

A few hours later, her chest ached, both arms felt sore as if they were bruised, she became nauseous, and had clammy skin.

"maybe this is a heart attack," she wrote. "i googled womens heart attack symptoms/i had many of them/but really? – i thought – naaaa."

She took the aspirin recommended for people who think they are suffering a heart attack but didn't call 911. She said that hundreds of thousands of women die each year of heart attacks and that many never dial the emergency number.

"by some miracle i was not one of them," she wrote, adding: "know the symptoms ladies/listen to the voice inside/the one we all so easily ignore/CALL 911/save urself."

Re: Rosie O'Donnell Suffers a Heart Attack

Not surprising. I remember on her show she often showcased her abysmal diet and thought it was funny. She was also on Dr. Oz and he warned her about her health; she turned it into a comedy routine. So much for fat pride.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell Suffers a Heart Attack

Are you saying that using the internet to self diagnose WORKS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Re: Rosie O'Donnell Suffers a Heart Attack

i would say her ugly karma is catching up to her.....she is a joke and a disappointment to the community

Re: Rosie O'Donnell Suffers a Heart Attack

I'm a little surprised at all of these responses. I've loved Rosie ever since 'A League of their own.'

I hope she gets her health in order with this wake up call. I want her around for a long time.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell Suffers a Heart Attack

Fat pig. And her GF has cancer. sounds like Google Page Ranking.

Tell us how you really feel. Don't hold anything back now.

Such animosity in this thread...

Re: Rosie O'Donnell Suffers a Heart Attack
