I don't remember ever standing when "God Bless America" is played. It's not a national anthem. I don't even give people a second glance if they don't stand during the national anthem. How do you know that they don't have a circumstance where standing can be difficult or their nationality. And how is not standing during the song a slant toward the troops. That one has me baffled.

Maybe she was a Jehovah's Witness. That religion forbids its members to stand for national anthems or salute any flag -- they consider it a form of idol worship. They consider it such a serious offence that it can get you disfellowshipped (excommunicated) from the religion.
