Rumsfeld Steps Down! [MERGED]

Finally we average (and majority of)Americans have a voice.
Dubya apparently has heard that voice and realizes shape up or he'll be next to ship out.
Just hope he keeps tight reins on Rove & Cheney.

What probably happened is that Rumsfeld had already decided to resign months ago and was told, wait until after the election so we won't get hit any worse than we're going to be.

Gates by the way has above-average intelligence and is a solid CIA man -- which ought to at least end the current bitter rivalry between Defense and CIA.

He was the guy who took the fall for William Casey during Iran-Contra. He's also written a book of memoirs that looks like it might be halfway interesting.

Wow, a lot of good news today. There is hope for a new America.

How strange just last week Bush said Rumsfeld would stay on until 2007 today he resigns and new person is named in no time. Was this all planned?

Diana Pierce, an anchor on the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis, had a slip of the tongue during the teaser for the 5PM local newscast today; she called him "Ronald Dumsfeld" before correcting herself!

Do you think Rumsfeld knew he was going to get axed?

Was that a known unknown, or and unknown unknown?
I like to think of it as a 'pack up your shit' and 'get the fuck out of here' known.

Rummy like Dubya hates to be challenged, even if the challengers are right (just look at the score of dismissed military leaders who didn't agree with fim).
Dubya's speech just floored me. He lied to the 3 reporters who questioned him about Rummy last week. Then he lied (and badly) about lying to them, all the while lying to us.
Clinton lied once during his administration and was impeached. Bush has lied all along (WMDs, Al Qaeda in Iraq etc) and three times during just this one speech.
Yet there are still people who support and respect him.
Mendacity like beauty must be in the eye of the beholder.

Re: Rumsfeld Steps Down!

I have to believe there are more than of a couple of former republican congressmen who are thinking too little too late. Especailly since Bush just said he talked to Gates down at the ranch on Sunday. If he was going to make the move why wait?

Definitely!
I was going to start a thread on this and was composing my post when I lost my connection. My theme was going to be "Bush proves he's no politician". If he'd come out with this four days earlier, he might still have the Senate, and a few more congresscritters.
Then he tries to make like he's being noble, not wanting to influence the election by announcing the decision -- do we believe he's that dense, or call it spin by his handlers?

That last line is true -- especially since it has been firmly established that Bush didn't lie about WMDs; he relied on the data given him, which isn't lying, it's being too gullible. Nor did he lie about Al Queda in Iraq; they were there, but only as people renting the training facilities -- there wasn't really any tie to Saddam.

But yeah, he's lied all over the place on this Rumsfeld thing. Just listening to him made me want to wash my mouth out -- of the vomit trying to trickle up.

We'll never know why Bush made the move after the election when doing it before would have helped his party so much (Rove must have bit right thru his lip) but I heard it suggested today that the reason was that the last person the Bush admin wanted handed a subpoena was Rummy. Evidently it was decided that his style would not mesh well with a critical democratic congress.

I don't know if its true but for some reason I laugh when I think about it.

Here it is....

In case you missed it - a "tribute" to Rummy...

Buh-Bye...!
