Good choice! I started running myself this year and it feels so great. I always look forward to my running sched which is 3 times a week.
I follow a beginner's program which is basically a run-walk thing. Main goal of what I'm following is in 12 weeks you get trained to run for 30 minutes.
Don't overdo it as you'll stress your body out and might over train. That's not good. What you want is to work your body and give it time to heal. I learned that the hard way.
