Rush Limbaugh hates education

One of the smartest people I know has a grade 10 education.

But he is also dangerous because he is also one of the least educated people I know as well. He does not understand education, the need for education or the joy of learning.

While very successful in his own business built on big equipment and pushing dirt around, that is just about the only world he knows. He is an arch conservative and is smart enough to understand that education leads to liberal thinking.

I think with Limbaugh, he has never come to grips with the fact that he is so poorly educated and has spent a lifetime trying to overcompensate.

I repeat though...how much longer can he keep spewing crap without blowing a head gasket?

However, she understood education, the need for education and the joy of learning tempered by natural curiosity.

That might help to explain the drug addiction.

As long as the "true believers" continue to listen, his sponsors will be willing to shell out the millions. ](*,)
Megadittos, man! *|**|**|*

Rush Limbaugh hates education? That's a pretty strong statement. Let's look at his education.

Limbaugh graduated from Cape Girardeau, Missouri Central High School, in 1969. Because of his parents' desire to see him attend college, he enrolled in Southeast Missouri State University but left the school after two semesters and one summer. According to his mother, "he flunked everything"

Hate it? ..... Maybe. He's scared of it and lazy perhaps. He didn't want to work to earn a degree. He's not dumb as he knows how to work the system by telling people what they want to hear. He confirms suspicions, instructs people it's okay to be prejudiced and massages fears.

If making money is a measure of success then he's successful. However, because of the controversy and hate he stirs up he's an utter failure. He badmouths education because an ignorant mass of people are easier to control (like I've said before).

Sounds like a course I had called Utopian Fiction. All it was was critical thinking and debating the contents of the novels.

Well, critical thinking and debate weren't the focus -- but if I was going to do critical thinking, it wasn't going to be with some mickey-mouse workbook. The argument/debate served the purpose of motivation for getting things down on paper.
And by selecting novels where the punctuation and grammar were impeccable, I improved their writing skills by the best method ever: exposure to good writing.

And I got to re-read some awesome novels as part of my job. :D

Like, so uneducated he has no clue how uneducated he is, or how merely the discipline of getting a degree improves one's ability to do any job at all.

He'd probably be baffled by the guy in Corvallis who had two B.S. degrees, one in math and one in geography, who got into landscaping, took over the business, and turned it into what he called "grounds art". He loved it -- this baffled most people -- because it allowed him to use both math and geography in one place.

And the competition couldn't touch him for elegance of outlays and harmony of form, yet he'd never had a landscaping course (in fact, with me, he despised trained landscapers because they NEVER take maintenance into account, which he said meant they arrived at "inelegant solutions", and I thought meant they were morons who were like engineers who never had to use their own products).

And that's the GOP base in a nutshell. They have complete control over the poorest states in the country, yet not one Alabaman, Georgian, Oklahoman or Mississippian has asked, "What have you done for me lately?" to the GOP. If they held the party accountable, maybe they'd be as rich per capita as the uber liberal states in New England or the West Coast.

By the way, I'm still waiting for the new Facebook, Apple, Twitter, LinkedIn or Oracle to come from a red state. After all, they're pro-business with the low taxes. And Californians are overtaxed.

Speaking as a Classics major, and someone who works to promote Classics, I was appalled by what he had said, about my field. I found it completely ironic, based on what a classical education gives you.

The following is certainly not to denigrate other academic disciplines, but is based on statistics from the Princeton Review and other organizations, along with anectotal evidence. Classics majors do better in medical school and law school and on their respective admittance exams than people with pre-med or pre-law bachelors' degrees. Classics majors earn the highest GRE scores out of any major, with only Art History and Philosophy coming in as close seconds.

While the Spanish major here requires a 15 page senior paper, Classics requires a 30-40 page paper. Mine's right around 60 pages. We learn very in-depth analytic and critical thinking skills that can be applied to a wide variety of fields. Learning how to think in Latin and Greek, and to translate those languages in a way that retains the emotional impact that it would have had on the original audience, and evaluating secondary sources is incredibly valuable in the modern job market.

I think it is ludicrous that he would slam this field, considering how fundamental it is to the entire educational system and our very civilization as a whole.

I suppose I also find it interesting how much trouble the protester who sparked his comments was having. A Classics major shouldn't have trouble in this economy, really. There are more Latin teacher positions than there are graduates, and as I have said, the field produces people with excellent critical thinking skills. I don't know what to make of that, exactly.

Ugg.

I'll hate myself in the morning for saying this now, but - Regardless of his level of completed education, Limbaugh is - objectively speaking - a brilliant radio talent.

He was born to be a broadcaster and he is startlingly good at it.

40 million dollar contracts are not given to hacks.

He is an absolute master of turning and twisting the truth around - sometimes rehearsed, sometimes on the fly to suit his rabid listeners.

His "callers" are often fake, sometimes real, but he's so damned good at it it's hard to tell which is which.

Is there really a "Snerdly" ? Who the hell knows ? He's taken the art of radio and it's mystery that dates all the way back to "The Shadow" and "Fibber Maggee's Closet" (look it up ) and turned it into an endless cash cow for himself and his backers, and has led the way in what can only be called "AM Hate Radio".

Believe it or not, folks, AM talk shows used to be entertaining. As a kid I was fascinated by them. It wasn't always this insular GOP political bubble where no actual debate could puncture through, it used to be about all sorts of different things, from politics to music to whatever was happening in the world or your local community that day.

But, when the corporation Clear Channel took over in - oh, I guess the mid- 1990's or so, EVERYTHING on AM radio changed.

There was no longer a two way discussion about whatever topic you could think of, but rather a carefully constructed GOP assault on the senses. The radio equivalent of Fox "News", if you will.

And that is what make Rush and his ilk so dangerous. There is a frightingly large chunk of Americans that hang on his words every day.

One would think they'd grow bored with it. "Obama the "man-child Socialist Kenyan who's brother lives in a hut can't do anything right and the GOP must resume power so we can all be OK again", is the message you can get just listening to 20 minutes of his show.

But, no.

There are folks that listen to him 3 hours a day, 15 hours a week and 60 hours a month, all frothing at the mouth, presumably, at their hatred for the Democrats and the "liberal elitists" and whatever other blather he chooses to spew that day.

That shit gets HUGE ratings.

And frankly, that scares the Hell out of me.

We've not progressed one inch from the days of "Tokyo Rose"

(Look that one up as well.)

I listened to 2 hrs of his pathetic show earlier today (for the US), and he has gotten so much worse over the past 5 years. Now I realize why all the wing nuts on this site go into ad hominems and spew logical fallacies. They have been listening to the king of ad hominems for years and have shut their brains off. They no longer understand logic.

After 2 hrs I heard Rush only state 2 facts, while launching 39 ad hominems and 12 logical fallacies! No lie! It just shows you how weak wing nuts are mentally, including JUB wing nuts.

^^^

Honestly, you listened to Rush Limbaugh for two hours?

Why not the whole show?

That said, I will be honest, I thought of you Jack S. (as well as Jackoroe, Chance1, and others) and finally realized why you debate the way you do. You're simply parroting what you've heard. You don't even realize the logical fallacies you're spewing, because your critical thinking skills don't exist, nor are exercised by conservative media.

Jack, you despise Maddow. Can you provide me 5 instances where she has lied about the facts? Not her personality, nor her delivery, but rather the facts she delivers. Can you? I highly doubt you can. Prove me wrong! I dare you!

And please stay on topic with no ad hominems, nor personal attacks. You and your ilk cannot do it. Prove me wrong.

Oh come on MoltenRock - everybody knows that anything that smacks of education is suspect.

I gave you about 4-5 examples in another thread - where you issued the same challenge -- it wasn't to hard to find examples of her lies. However, I'm sure you'll have problems with the sources.

Back to the topic of this thread -- if you were to have listened to Limbaugh the day he spoke about his education. He merely said that college was not for everyone -- including himself. No one can argue that he hasn't been successful in his chosen profession.

He does not come from a poor uneducated family. His father was a lawyer and judge, his brother is a lawyer and author.
