I understand how the primitive anti-homo rubbish in the Bible can help to fuel homophobia in Christian-dominant countries, but I didn't realise that many people still believed that stuff in Russia. Hmmmm ... just checked, apparently 50% of Russians identify as Christian in poles.

Incidentally, I know he could get a bit stroppy now and again what with all that, 'I come not to bring peace but a sword', stuff, but don't recall ever reading anywhere that the Jesus character (Baby, or otherwise) fucked a 9 year old girl.

In order to buy the support of the orthodox church....and recognizing that there was an upsurge of near fundamentlist fervour in post-soviet Russiastan, there is a decidedly reactionary conservative swing of the pendulum.

We saw this first hand when we spent time in Russia several years ago.

In short, Russia is just another backwater shithole where the rich get phenomenally richer and the politicians use nationalism and homophobia to distract the masses by providing scapegoats.
