On-Topic Ryan to Focus on Family: Romney & I Will Fight Equality for GLBT People

Yeah read about it and eh. Nothing I didn't already know.

Was much more fascinated about the story on the Colbert Report about the silencing of clergy in regards to politics. Typical American attitude of having their cake and eating it. They want the right to free speech but don't want to give up tax exempt status. Course if churches and other places of worship were taxed, many of them, especially in big cities, would in fact be shut down for their inability to pay said taxes.

If the church wants to get involved in politics, then start paying taxes. Otherwise get your religious crap out of my secular goverment.

Righties think too much about sex. They might be jealous that we get more than they do.

They will both be flip flopping on this issue for sure. The religious right will pull there support.

The president has stated he's for Marriage Equality.

R&R are NOT flip-flopping, they're both kowtowing to the religious bigots.

Romney/Ryan will protect the institution of marriage by preventing as many people who are in love as possible from participating in it.

Sounds like their plan for protecting the middle class by sending all our money to rich people.

QFT. This might be the only time they're not flip-flopping. Obviously, we're disregarding "equal protection under the law." (U.S. Constitution)

Dumbass policy. Upholding traditional marriage is an infringement on freedom of religion. Ironic but true.
There is no logical basis for maintaining a tradition, which proves the only reason, has religious sensitivities surrounding it. And since in a nation where freedom of religion is a right, imposing religious belief of any one or more faiths on an entire nation is unconstitutional. I hope that people where they matter, don't fail to overlook that religious freedom works both ways. Marriage should be a legal definition, not a traditional religious one.

Absolutely.

It's why I still favor the government adopting a totally neutral term for the law's use and letting people who get joined/hitched/bonded/united/handfasted/married call it what they want: religious people would be able to call it what they wanted and just shut up about the rest.

And to think there are some gay people who support this piece of shit Ryan. Are they that stupid that they'll vote for someone who hates them and believes they're second class citizens? They must be. But since this guy lies about everything and his running mate too they'll say anything to try and get elected.

Thanks God this pile of crap and his phony millionaire boyfriend will be faded memories in a few months.

"Even though Ryan wants to take away all my rights, I'll still vote for him because he looks good without a shirt and has dreamy blue eyes!" *swoon*

You mean to tell me there are gay Republicans, the pinnacle of confusion. And they will say something like "We want to change the party from within" bwahahahaha

The first Amendment prohibits laws infringing freedom of speech or the free exercize of Religion. You liberals think they have to make a choice. Churches can have freedom of speech or free exercize of Religion. Total nonsense. They are entitled to both. I understand this year hundreds of Ministers are preaching a political sermon and sending it to the IRS, defying them to do something.

Once again, you miss the point, Benny. The Church can say whatever the hell they like. However, much like the Mormon church and Prop 8, a lot of Evangelical churches want to have political influence and re-write the law to their liking, while still keeping their tax-exempt status. They want to have their say in the political process, but not have to contribute to it, even though they can obviously afford to. (Giant cold crosses and fleets of Cadillacs aren't cheap, you know!)

Plus there's this thing called "separation of church and state". Look it up, Benny.

So the gay community could just start a church, called something like The Church Of Equality, and offer to marry people of any gender. If the Government refused to recognise the marriages, wouldn't that be an infringement to the right to exercise religion???

Not quite. The church would have to be officially recognized as a religion by the US Government. Not sure on the requirements for that. I assume it isn't quite as easy as you make it out to be. Scientology somehow got tax-exempt status so it would have to be a full on gay community mandate to join the church to get it.

First step is to qualify as a church in some particular state -- the requirements vary widely; some places you can have just a handful of people to qualify.
