Sad News/Brendan Burke, Gay Son of Toronto Maple Leafs Manager, Killed in Car Accident Today {merged}

I can't imagine the family's sorrow. What a loss for the gay community as well. A brave, beautiful boy to be lost so soon who provided a shining tribute to being out.

The random, pointless cruelty of life seems just perverse sometimes.

I feel so awful for the families of those two kids.

I feel awful for the kids themselves. I know in days to come I'll begin to look for the positives that aren't eradicated because the boys died, but right now I'm bitter. I feel like they got cheated.

Brendan did a lot for his family and for us all during his lifetime.

I am so sad at his passing, but also celebrate HOW he lived his life.

Bravo, and Rest in Peace, Brendan. :kiss:

A sad story indeed. Always amazing how fast one can be taken away in this world,

I am heartsick. I read that Globe and Mail feature in December and was pleased that his family and hockey colleagues were so supportive, and hopeful for all that he would accomplish. What a tragedy.

I went to high school with Brendan. He was THE nicest person. I'm praying for his family and Marks. RIP Brendan. You'll be missed.

His funeral is tomorrow afternoon. RIP Brendan

Wow, that is terrible, I remember reading his story. Hopefully someone else will be brave enough to step up and be the same kind of role model for out gay athletes.

Do you have a link to that feature?
