Any song about an older relative that gives good advice, encouragement, and comfort, and winds up looking down from heaven by the end of the song. There were about a hundred of those to hit the charts over the years. Here are a few titles:

"Living in Shame (Mama I Miss You)" - The Supremes

"Sadie (She's Teaching Angels How to Love)" - The Spinners

"Dance With My Father" - Luther Vandross

"Fancy" - Reba McEntire

"Mama, Why Did God Take My Daddy?" - Loretta Lynn

This song, although not the very saddest song I've ever heard, it's without a doubt ONE OF the saddest songs I've ever heard...it makes me a bit tearful I admit. Brings a lot of memories and old wounds that have yet to heal. :(
But I love it nonetheless, I like sad stuff, what can I say? I'm a softie at heart. :D
