‘Tis the season for charities, like the Salvation Army, to remind us of the less fortunate while soliciting donations of money, food goods, and toys for tots.

Except toys from the Harry Potter and Twilight movies... which are expected to be among the most popular gifts this holiday season.

In Canada, the Salvation Army has taken to throwing those specific toys away.

But don’t worry; toy guns, like replica M-16s, are propertly sorted into the “10 and up” bin for distribution to the needy. Nothing like giving a kid in the ghetto a plastic gun to start him off on the right foot. Praise Jeebus!

Personally, I don't care if they want to censor what toys they give out... but accepting the toys from people and then trashing them? That's uncool. (And I don't believe for a moment that they pass them along to other charities.)

Another reason to hate the Salvation Army. This just makes me to whip my dick out and take a piss in their money pot.

What else is new? Community service used as a thin disguise to push religion. There are plenty of charities out there, yet suggest that it is wrong to have the "Salvation" Army have access to malls etc. and you are branded as some sort of nutjob.

I saw too many inconsistencies in that report. Be vague. That seems to leave more room in the mouth to change feet.

There are many sources for the report, I just picked one to cite.

The Salvation Army has released a press statement about the incident, in which it gives a cryptically worded response:

"The Salvation Army has no policy against distributing Harry Potter or similar toys and, in fact, these types of toys are donated and distributed in some areas," the Christian organisation said.

“Some areas,” eh? And what happens with all the toys of this nature donated in areas that do not distribute them? Still no official word on that.

It sounds like the Salvation Army does not have an “official” policy, so they can honestly tell people that, but their “unofficial” stance is hidden between the lines.

Well, there goes another foot.

(PS - By 'inconsistencies', I meant that the woman contradicted herself to many times and was intentionally vague in her statements. Very non-committal.)

They are all doomed to end up here with all those other evil misfit toys!!!

I woulda played with ALL those toys. Who wants an elephant with spots? I do!

Except for the train with the square wheels on his caboose. He should be burned as an abomination. Kidding!

I would just like to point out that this is only happening in Calgary, Alberta...

Which for us Canadians, is hardly surprising. That might just be the Saskatchewanian in me speaking though...

Anyways, the SA has stood behind the excuse that they received a number of complaints from 'concerned parents' regarding the nature of some of these toys. The report I read on this suggested that any toy which the SA deems to be 'unfit' for them, will be donated to another charitable organization which has no problem with giving the toys on to families in need.

The report I read also had a small section from an unidentified volunteer from the Calgary location who thought the decision was ridiculous, and rightly agreed that toys from those franchises would be incredibly popular this year. I agree, even though I don't care for either Harry Potter or Twilight; but kids seem to like it.

I have to agree with Ravenstar; If I'm going to do something to help a family/kid receive a Christmas present, I'll likely do it through a different organization or just go to a store which has a 'giving tree'.

So no to Jake, but yes to gun? Wow, what a world we live in.[-X

That's incredibly sad.

If they don't want to accept those toys, they should make clear right from the start so the people who want to donate those toys can divert them to a charity which will make good use of them! It is incredibly disrespectful, and wasteful to accept donations and then throw them out.

Incredibly sad.

Lawl. I love some of these responses.

W/we give to Goodwill. They are so much better. I even got a hot pair of jean shorts from there once for 5$. I think you can get a tax write off on items you donate and the quantity too.

Good thing I already did my shopping. I won't have to see them much.

What's un-Christian about dildos and cockrings? Where in the bible are they prohibited?

-T.

Hmm ... well, I suppose the cockring could pass for a halo, and the dildos ... hmm ...

Oh! I've got it! Drill a hole in the piss-slit end and use them for candleholders! :D

Dora the Explorer has a magical talking map, so I guess her ass is in the trash too.

They need to remember that they're doing this for the kids, not for themselves, so they should remove the statue of Jesus from their anus for half a second. Who knows? Maybe they themselves will have an epiphany without the constant pressure down there.
