I will miss her, but life for her has been very difficult for her lately. Yesterday and last night were particularly bad for her. Her hind legs collapsed a number of times and she needed help getting up again.

I'm sad that she is gone, but I'm not sad that she is no-longer feeling the pain and confusion.

Goodbye, Sam.

Goodbye, Sam.

Sorry to hear that.:cry: My thoughts are with you, Neil.

Think of it this way: she's smiling at you down from doggie heavan. :D (*8*)

It is so hard to lose a pet. Take comfort in knowing
that Sam isn't suffering anymore. You did all you
could to make her comfortable.
God bless you Neil.

My codolences to you and your partner, on the passing or your beloved friend and pet.
Sam is now in a better place on the other side with no pain or worries. (*8*)

Thoughts are with you, gsdx .... I understand the sorrow you're feeling as I've experienced it, too .... twice, in fact. We've had two much loved pet dogs over the years and had to have both of them euthenased. That was many years ago now, and I've never wanted another dog since ... the second time was just too traumatic.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and kinder words. I appreciate them very much.

My codolences to you and your partner, on the passing or your beloved friend and pet.

For the record, I have known my roommate for over 20 years. Nothing has ever happened between us in all that time. We are simply friends who now happen to share an apartment.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your pet. My thoughts are with you today. (*8*)

I'm sure Sam was a dog that was loved which means he was happy and lived a good life!

My first dog had cancer and I waited way too long before I had her put to sleep. Selfish on my part but a lot of owners hang on!

I still have this ache for her!

It took me 5 years before I got another dog. This one I saved and gave him a good life for his remaining years. But then wondered If I had him put to sleep too soon? He could walk but had a real hard time getting up.

It's just terrible losing a pet no matter what!

So sorry for your loss and thinking of you!

Neil, you have my deepest condolence in regards to Sam' passing. I know your grief is strong right now, but keep in mind, you and your roomate did the right thing in putting an end to her suffering. Hold onto the wonderful memories she gave you for 12 years. I hope your grief subsides quickly and you are able to move on and be happy.

My heart felt sympathies GSDX, for you and your roomate. The loss of a pet, such a constant and faithull companion is a sad time. There is so much to say, and at the same time, so many here have already said it so well.

You're in our thoughts, take care

Eric

I maintain that you did the right thing, GSDX by YOUR best bud.

You loved her. She loved you. And she depended on you to do the right thing and you did it.

It doesn't ease the heartache any, but there's a happy, healthy dog waiting for you on the other side.

My sympathy goes out to you. I have been where you are! It is very hard to have to say goodbye. Thank heavens he had you to help him leave when he needed to go!

Lovely thoughts!

This is exactly why everyone needs a living will - to give that special person in your life the knowledge, strength, courage, and guidance to make that difficult decision when you can't.

May your sadness pass quickly and be replaced only by the happy times you shared together.

A pet can be so much an enrichment to our lives, especially one we have had had many wonderful years with. You certainly gave Sam a great home and showed lots of love.I don't know how much a beloved pet can really sense and recognize love and companionship, but I believe the answer would be more than we know.
