a lot of japanese have a difficulty pronouncing consonant clusters. they break down consonant clusters into basic vowel sounds. thus, guten morgen will be pronounced as gutennu morugenu. this makes foreign language learning a national complex.

you must be a fan of the japanese culture. the spoken language is easier to learn if the learner will temporarily disregard the basic grammar rules of his native language. the japanese language has an eccentric syntaxis which baffles alot of westerners. but i have met a lot of english and french guys who speak the language so well.

inspite of the fact that japanese youth ( and i think the rest of the younger generation of the world ) is embracing the american values and culture, true, a lot of the traditions and customs are still being practiced widely, even by the youth. underneath japan's very polished mask lies a very conservative nation with the tradional culture relatively intact.
