Mr. Hollande has just won the Presidential Election in France. So within 5 years (I hope this year or next) we will have same sex marriage and adoption rights for gay couples ! Great ! (I don't write about other things in his program, it's more political and not within Hot Topics realm I think).

I dream to see my brother marry his partner (if they want it) :)

PS : he won by 52/48 % more or less to Mr. Sarkozy

So should I propose now or then?

..I'll proposition now, regardless.

We should wait for the official act :)

Decorum is important, especially for you dear Lex ! :) Gargoyles have a rank to respect :)

And I thought gay men in France are already giving birth to babies! How can there be no gay marriage n France yet?

Ah ! That's a shame :(

Criminality of homosexuality was erased since the French Revolution of 1789 (in 1792 if I'm not mistaken), and Civil Rights (known as 'PACS', but with many many marriage rights not within) since 1999. But no marriage nor adoption (whereas single man/woman can adopt which lead to many legal battle since it's so hypocritical) :(

I'm glad I will not be ashamed anymore in the very near future.

I am surprised that the margin of victory was so narrow. He will be good for human dignity, but I wonder if Hollande will be good for the economy.

BTW, shouldn't he be «François Pays-bas» or something like that?

^ lol :)

For a leftist candidate, it's not so narrow. We have never a result too apart (failing to write the right English expression here :( ), though there were extraordinaries counter examples like De Gaulle or Chirac versus the Far Right extremist Le Pen.

For the economy, we'll see, but being in the Eurozone will limit his room for maneuver anyway.

"Landslide" is presumably the word you're looking for. And I'm all about decorum. Nobody has to know about what we do in my bedroom in the castle...or in the hot tub...or in the bell tower...or in the fountain in the courtyard...

or in the dungeon :)

yes thank you, landslide is the perfect word I was searching for :)

It depends on the legislative elections. If the PS become the majority then it could happen this year. I read somewhere, probably in Tetu, that M. Hollande would try to legalize marriage in 2013, should he become president.

I wonder if this president will have the courage to do anything to protect France from the Islamization of Europe. Most likely not.

The Assemblée is elected separately from the Presidential election? When?

(i should know this having studied it…)

same sex marriage is a firm promise that he will have to keep (the gay mayor of Paris will probably be in the government and would remind him of that :) and not only him :) ). And Adoption rights.

For the election, yes it is at different date, it's at the beginning of June. But it has never happened that just following a presidential election the legislative one gave a different result. Bonus of the winning team if you want :)

Usually I prefer centre-left to centre-right. But I prefer centre-right to far left. Yet Sarkozy truly wasted 5 years accomplishing very little. France deserves better.

I am skeptical that Hollande is better, but at least they cleared out Sarkozy. Maybe his wife can write a song about these events.

He is going to be doing a lot for the people of France

We will see if it works.

I'm here for this.
