Same-sex marriage is about equality, not religion

I wish the mainstream news would present more factually based reports about what marriage is, period. Marriage is now and always has been a piece of secular civil contract law. That’s the only form the government cares about; the religious trappings are just window dressing, utterly devoid of value in the eyes of Uncle Sam.

I've said this before. The US has blurred this line by allowing the clergy to officiate the civil portion of marriage. Many countries don't allow this and the marriage takes place in a civil setting and the church service is window dressing. We combine the two which I think is wrong.

Totally agree.

Religion was never about equality.. unless you are following the one and only true faith..

the sad thing is many traditional cultural ceremony for a marriage is between "a man & a woman".

Yeah modern culture should change that old tradition.

Overall God married the first couple...which was MAN and WOMAN....If God wanted other options he would have created them. It's changing Gods original plan basically.

Well, IF some deity created two people to start with.. and one was MAN and the other one was WOMAN.. what would be the odds of other options?

God married the first couple? That story isn't in any bible I've ever read. :?

Anywho, this argument doesn't stop Atheists or Jews or Muslims from getting married without Christian protest.

I applaud this brother for speaking the truth, even if he's still doing it from the pulpit. :?

as if anyone had heard god before. They must prove they heard "god said ..."
Its all from MAN's mouth.

Your god has no say in US law. We have a constitution, and the bible isn't part of it.

What's in the bible? Did God preside and made Adam and Eve exchange vows and hand them their wedding rings? lol

This is fucking classic. :rotflmao:

Who was the clerk who filed the paperwork? Was it Gabriel?

I thought (almost) everything is 'about religion' in the US?

Because legally we can't discriminate against any religion yet stubbornly promote Christianity.

It appears to be a mess but it's actually quite calm for the most part. Even the Southern towns have Catholic churches next door to Synagogues and some snake handling holy roller place. All within sight of a gay bar or two (in Atlanta) anyway.

So, if you see a bunch of protestors outside a courthouse in San Fran, don't forget that if the camera zooms back just a few yards, you'd see that the vast majority of people couldn't care less about any of it.

The judicial system is supposed to enforce the Constitutional rights of everyone but gays haven't been considered a type of citizen for so long that it takes a while to catch up.

Knocking down all the sodomy laws nationwide was the biggest step towards recognizing 'gay' in America. I think that was done around 2003.

I think religion(s) and non religion can live peacefully/successfully with each other
if they stop trying to convert people (via all techniques ).

I never seen Buddhism try to convert anyone unlike desert religions.

Or if people would just recognize that THEIR religion is THEIR personal choice. Which amounts to much the same thing.
