Since I was in College, I wanted to do El Camino de Santiago. Not for religious reasons, since I am not even Catholic, but because I wanted to take part in to this very old (older than Catholicism) tradition.
To walk into the same trails that millions of people have walked for thousands of years, always interested me. Then there is the landscape of Northern Spain, and the towns with their architecture... well it seemed like a great adventure to me
This link will take you to a description to El Camino de Santiago.
Fast forward a few years;
OK about 15 years!
.
And my friend e-mails me and says "I always wanted to do El Camino de Santiago, and since we are not getting any younger, we should do it sooner rather than later"
I agree wholeheartedly and then she says "This September?"
and I freak out!
Yo see, I had made plans, and reservations, for this big conference, and so I have no money left for a trip to Spain!
Especially when the euro is kicking the dollar's butt!
But a pottery friend of mine says, "Why don't you sell your pottery? You might make some money..."
So I make this crazy plan, I will make 100 mugs and sell them for $15 (not bad for a handmade mug) and use the money to fund my trip...
Now I've started to make them.
and I need to figure out how to sell them;
and all of that, on top of the training since I will be walking 115kms (about 70 miles) carrying my stuff on my back!
BTW, we will not be doing the whole thing (it is about 800 kms) because we do have jobs and we don't get a full month vacation. We are doing only the last leg of the trip.
Apparently it is only necessary to walk 100kms to get the Compostela
This is the first entry on this series, as the mugs, and the training goes, I will keep posting blogs.
Maybe with some pictures
