WTF?

Santorum has called the president a snob because he said it would be a good thing if higher education were available to everyone. Santorum believes it would not be a good thing to try to make college available to all.

Just goes to show that Santorum is the epitome of GOP backwardness when it comes to championing ignorance.

Santorum has jumped the shark so much that he's getting to be too much for even some GOP governors, who are now defending Obama (basically unheard of in the GOP).

It wasn't about indoctrination...

But you have to remember, this is the party that was so delusional they tried to paint a speech to school kids from the president about nothing more than why you should stay in school into an indoctrination session.

I hope he keeps talking, he is only ensuring Obama the win the this upcoming election.

I think Obama agrees too because a lot of his recent policy decisions seem a little extreme for an election cycle.

Wait he has a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree and a law degree, I don't understand his railing against higher education.

Must be one of those "do as I say, not as I do."

there's definitely a "snobbish" attitude at play in the educational system in this country (especially at the high school level) that looks down on the idea of community college or trade schools or apprenticeships... but that has nothing to do with Obama, who's come out many times in support of trade schools and community colleges.

for most people, racking up 6 figures in debt getting a liberal arts degree to get an administrative job pushing papers isn't a smart idea, no matter how hard guidance councilors and high school teachers push the idea that everyone should be shoehorned into a 4-year university.

I agree with you that the snobbishness comes from academia...not only high school but the universities as well, who can be pompous asses. It is academia who has also driven the cost of a higher education to absurd levels, despite the millions they receive annually in private support funding. The President has supported ALL education beyond high school and has encouraged kids to finish high school and not drop out. Santorum is doing nothing but using misinformation in hopes of capturing votes from the far extreme right who hates Obama. IMO, Santorum shot himself in the foot and was even criticized by Fox News as being "over the top".

The goal of Rick Santorum is to have an uneducated country.

It is shocking that people applauded Santorum when he made the statement at a rally.

And let us be clear here, Obama did not say colleges and universities only. He talked about the post secondary apprenticeships and trade school programs as well. So when Santorum tried to cover his gaffe by making this distinction, he had to be assuming that Americans are as stupid as he is or that they weren't watching the president's speech that night.

What Rick and his Owners understand though is that people with any training and higher skills expect to be paid in relationship to these skills.

And when all the oligarchs want are unskilled greeters at Walmart, any education becomes a liability.

Has America no aspirational values at all any more?
