Sarah Palin believes in the "End Times"

Yes. start praying, because if this dumb ass "snowbilly" get in office the END WILL BE NEAR...

One thing that gets me is how people like her pastor can experience something from God, like a "word of knowledge" (which can happen; I've been hit with one), and they think that makes them a divine authority on all sorts of things they really have no knowledge about. It's kind of like scientists who have a degree in something like molecular biology who for some reason think that qualifies them to speak on social policy or religion or whatever.
I have never been impressed by the education level of Assembly of God pastors, and this guy's lack shows. What I couldn't tell, but hope and pray is not the case, is whether he's one of these people who think it's their duty to actively try to bring on Armageddon.

They are fucking nuts!. These sentences especially worrisome.

What you see in Iraq, basically, is a manifestation of what's going on in this unseen world called the spirit world. ... We need to think like Jesus thinks. We are in a time and a season of war, and we need to think like that. We need to develop that instinct. We need to develop as believers the instinct that we are at war, and that war is contending for your faith. ... Jesus called us to die.

I have seen the beginning of this before and thought it was wierd. But the rest of it!!!!!

He's mixing thoughts that are twisted from their original meanings, essentially pulling them out of context and making them fit a patchwork theme supporting a theme of "warfare" that isn't what the Bible really is talking about. That's one of the things that happens when you get poorly educated preachers.

tmb1,

I think it would be useful to parse out for us the politically objectionable religious beliefs attributable to Gov. Palin, those attributable to her friend and former pastor Ed Kalnins, and the connection between the two if any.

The Huffington Post article gives a smattering of notions expressed by Pastor Kalnins, some of which are politically objectionable (like people going to hell for criticizing Pres. Bush) and some of which are just strange (like refuge states during the end times). That seems to me to make him just one more religious nut on the tree. And besides that, it's unclear to me when he developed these ideas. He became pastor in 1999, and Sarah Palin left his church in 2002 or thereabouts.

And as for "end times" being something to get all hysterical about--I think most Christians believe that there is an end to history. That's not really anything outrageous or strange. I'd really like to know why Gov. Palin's views on the matter are particularly troubling.

Of course she believes in the End Times
.

.
.
She's the one who's going to make it happen.

There's nothing wrong with believing in the End Times. I do. Most people have a belief in the end of time or eternity.

Everyone of us should be fucking scared out of our minds that she will be a heart beat away from the presidency.

Well said. I don't see how any JUB member could favor the Republican ticket this year. It's not just Palin's belief god wants us to be at war with Iraq and Iran, but also her strong anti-gay position. For example, I could see her aggressively pushing for a ban on gay marriage in the constitution because her god requires it. She is more dangerous than Cheney.

There are really some Christians who believe in End Times that actively trying to make it happen by going to war with evil nation.I know about that because I was a conservative back then (years ago) although not that crazy!oops!

Yeah i'd read about this. Very disturbing.

So much for the "libertarian streak" eh.

I find it interesting that the Huffington Post wants to attach her to her religion and the views of her church but not Barack. If her church shaped her views then surely his did the same. Vote for who you feel you should on the issues but this is a blatant double-standard.

Good point!
I'd make up a questionnaire about her faith, but I somehow doubt she'd fill it out and return it.

No one who wants Creationism taught in the public schools, manages to get tens of millions in earmarks from Congress, wants to outlaw abortion, and opposes equal rights for all citizens has a libertarian streak. She's also a fan of the "War on Drugs" and other forms of persecuting innocent people through the law.

Maybe because it's Rev. Wright who spoke back then, not Obama. But with this situation, both the pastor and Sarah Palin spoke to the congregation. So I think it's fair to question Sarah's point of view.

Maybe Obama back then wanted to leave his church badly because of that hatred speeches by his pastor but in the other hand, his pastor is his family for long times. So it's dilema for him:eek: I can definitely relate to Obama's situation with his church because I have so many conservative friends that I'm disagreeing with but I keep silent on some topics cuz I haven't out to them yet although if they're attacking gay people,I try my hardest to defend without outing myself LOL:badgrin:

And if there happens to be some poorly educated in the congregation they would be more likely to believe the pastor. #-o
