Thank you.I can see Tavares' point about not giving insignificant people power through the use of their words. But that's the only thing I agree with that he says.
However, let me make this clear for one and all... The way I choose to live my life, including what I tolerate or reject, fight against or just leave alone is not up for debate nor is it subject to your personal approval. I don't go around calling people faggots. I don't go around saying "that's so gay." I don't support gay bullying. What I also don't do, is allow people to tell me how I am supposed to feel and proceed to stereotype me simply because I don't agree with them... straight OR gay.
BTW, what's ""hanging" people while doing "the dozens" at the bus stop," mean? I honestly don't know.
If you're the student of African American culture as you say you are, I'm sure you're familiar with "Yo' Momma" jokes. "Yo Momma is so fat, she jumped up in the air and got stuck." The practice of telling "Yo Momma" jokes is "doing the dozens." When you tell a joke to someone, that's called "hanging" someone.
It's derivative of two things. Slave trade and lynching. "The Dozens" comes from when slave owners thought slaves weren't of prime quality, they were sold by the dozens. "Hanging" comes from when you publicly clown someone by telling a "Yo Momma" joke, the way blacks were publicly shamed via a hanging in the South. So, when you publicly humiliate someone when telling a "Yo Momma" joke, you are "hanging" them while "doing the dozens."
