Saw a urologist about my foreskin

I'm hopping for some advice on my situation regarding my tight foreskin and my trouble of not being able to retract it when it is erect.

I have already browsed through every part of the penis section in the health and wellbeing.

I believe I have phimosis. I just came back from a urology and he didn't even know what that meant which I found so strange.

I showed him my penis and explained to him the situation. I explained to him the the creme (beamethasome?) that stretches foreskin and he said it doesn't work although I forgot the name and couldn't tell it to him.

He basically said I had 3 options. A partial circumcision, a dorsal slit or a full circumcision. I will NOT do a dorsal slit as that estetically looks gross to me. I never wanted a circumcision to begin with as I like having foreskin, I just want to pull it back. A partial slit he said is my best bet as it will be able to retract a little bit but when I'm flacid it may look strange and pull half way up the head of my penis.

I want to seek a second opinion but first I want to try that damn steroid cream.

Does the cream work for life? Do I only have to use it for a while and then I can pull back?

As of right now, when I have anal sex (I'm a top) it feels like I'm wearing a condom. On top of that, I am wearing a condom so it's like having 2 condoms!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'll definitely check out that site. I don't want a circumcision at all to be honest so hopefully that will help.

Get a second opinion. Whether or not you need surgery depends on the cause and the extent of your phimosis.

Usually the deciding factor is whether your phimosis results from a scar ring in your foreskin. The steroid cream is seldom effective when there's a scar ring involved. What the cream does is thin the skin so that it can be stretched and unfortunately the scar- either in a ring or in a stricture- doesn't respond in the way that normal skin does.

I'm glad you are seeking a second opinion. It might be a good idea to speak to any doctor's nurse first to see if the doc has any expertise.

This is definitely Phimosis. I would never go back to that urologist!!! Run from him - run far from him.

The creams take a long, long, looooong time to work. You are basically trying to (permanently) stretch the phimotic ring of the foreskin. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Here's the real bitch of Phimosis: It can worsen over time... and become quite painful.

Get thyself to another urologist. Ask him about removing only the Phimotic Ring - which is the culprit here - and leaving the rest intact. Any good urologist with a surgical background will know what you're talking about and be able to do it without hacking off your foreskin.

Waste no time... Go. Get. Now!!

In addition to the steroid creams, do they advise manually stretching the skin over time? I don't have a foreskin so I don't know how it would work and so I am not recommending this, but is there a way to insert a very thin wedge of some sort between the penis and foreskin that stretches the skin over time. It just seems to me that if people can stretch shaft skin enough to create the look of a foreskin that the foreskin itself could be stretched. I mean skin does stretch and even break. I know from having gained weight and having stretch marks, which is a result of the elastin fibers actually breaking.

I really don't have anything to add, just as someone who misses and never got to know his own foreskin, I hate to hear about anyone else having to lose his own.

I'm in a similar situation. The steroid cream that's been found to be effective repeatedly in clinical studies is Betamethasone Dipropionate 0.05% (branded as Diprosone in UK).

I'm having difficulty getting my urologist to prescribe this, because its a potent steroid that can thin the skin, he seems reluctant to prescribe in case of side effects. He doesn't seem to understand it's the skin thinning side effect that will cure the problem. At the moment I'm using Betnovate RD cream (Betamethasone Valerate 0.025%) which is a weaker version of the same steroid.

The steroid creams can still work even if you have mild scarring on the phimotic ring as it can loosen the scar tissue. If the scarring is significant it might not work, but its worth a try anyway before considering surgery.

There's a conservative type of surgery you might want to consider called a Preputioplasty where they make an incision then stitch it laterally. This is similar to the Dorsal slit but is supposed to look better cosmetically, but preputioplasty doesn't always work if the scarring is significant.

Update here. I still have not found another urologist and have no idea where to get one so I'll have to google in my city? I don't know.

But just so everyone knows, it turns out I CAN pull my foreskin back. It's more like I can roll it back just behind the head of the penis, but if I let go it pretty much goes back. I still need it to retract further.

I'll have to read more on the phimotic ring but is it possible to just remove that ring itself?

^ if the ring is your problem, yes it is possible.

As a medical professional, the steroid cream is not the answer. It should only be used 3-5 days at the most, so long term use is out of the question. Steroids will cause the skin to become thin and fragile and the part that is absorbed into the blood stream may cause more long term problems.

Have a complete circumcision! Have that nasty little bit of skin snipped off. If you already have phimosis the hear of your penis is already malformed, pointed.

As an adult I have had my infant circumcision revised. It was done in the Urologist's office under local. I have very little discomfort following the procedure. I am a strong advocate for infant circumcision. To me there is nothing any more disgusting than an uncircumcised penis.

Stretching your skin overtime will let you overcome phimosis. At most only get the ring removed to so you retain the natural mechanics of your penis.

And as for freedbarton's response. As a medical "professional" you are an advocate for infant circumcision because you find foreskin disgusting and nasty?
I find this absolutely terrible and imposing this on a child without his concent is wrong. If someone wants it done as an adult then fine, but not when the person has no choice.

^that aside, it's highly UNprofessional for someone to recommend something like that based on personal preference. I only hope that one of his patients will report for this kind of "professional" advice

I have mild phimosis as well and am getting a circumcision next week

Before you have the entire foreskin removed, discuss a "partial" with your surgeon. He can relieve the discomfort and problems of the phimosis and you still retain some of the foreskin.

I've recommended this before, but I know not all guys read all posts, so:

If you get circumsized - or were at birth - the biggest complaint regarding the proceedure is the loss of sensitivity in the glans (head). Unfortunately, too many urologists and (maybe especially) general practitioners never think to recommend thier "cut" patients use Vitamin E oil on a daily basis.

My doctor recommended this to me when I complained of dry, rough, thick skin on my cockhead and a serious lack of sensation. Each day, right after you shower, pat the area just so it is damp-dry. Apply 5 or 6 drops of pure vitamin E oil (can be found at any health food store grocery store or corner pharmacy) to the head and far enough down the shaft to what's left of the foreskin.

My doctor who talked about partial said it will look like shit (his words) if you get a partial because it will look like your foreskin is coming down half way down your head when you are flaccid. I can see that being really uncomfortable in underwear as well.

The responsible thing to do would be to show you what the options are, what the expected outcomes would look like and let you decide which you are most comfortable with.

It's not his dick, it's yours. You can decide for yourself whether it looks like shit or not.

Get a second opinion.

I'm going to get as many opinions as I can get, but first I'm doing a little more research.

The only options he mentioned were 3:

1. Full circumcision which he recommended.
2. Partial Circ which he said doesn't look appealing.
3. Dorsal slit which just sounds nasty.

But I think there are others out there. Reading online now.

For the record, I decided a year ago, after consulting a urologist, to do nothing and leave it be.

The fact is that I went to the age of 33 without even realising there was any problem. It has never caused me any pain or discomfort, and I never try to retract the skin. It's permanently covered over, and it's been like that for all my life.

The urologist that I saw a year ago dismissed the cream as not doing any good. He stated the OPTION of circumsision, but he was not overly concerned about it to be honest.

Nor was a relative of mine who I asked about it, as she had decades of experience in the health sector.

I personally feel that some people try to whip phimosis up into a medical crisis when people such as myself can go decades with the condition without any problem.

Needless to say, however, if I notice any sudden change or anything odd occuring, I will re-consult the urologist immediately.

But failing any trouble (and I can only speak for myself) unless there is pain of discomfort or a development in the future, I have completely forgotten about the whole issue.

I'm going to a walk in clinic at the hospital tomorrow and hopefully getting a referral to a urologist there. That seems like my only option.

2. Partial Circ which he said doesn't look appealing.
and why is that? even many uncircumcised people do not have a fully covered glans. it's not more a problem in the underwear than being fully cut  so far most cut guys here who regret being cut are happy if they still have at least a bit of foreskin, especially for jerking off. it seems the doc gave you his own personal opinion as medical advice [-X but it is you dick .. did you try googling for images of partial circumcisions?
