My friend just said that saying "I love you" in bed doesn't count. (We have all heard that before)

I just thought it was ironic because sex in theory is an extension of your love so why wouldn't you talk about it? (Playing devil's advocate)

If it is the first time you or that person said I love you, or the 3,372 time.

I don't necessarily believe that.....(Hence the "Devil's advocate")

I thought the irony was worth giving attention to.

Anyone else see it too?

Saying I love you after sex is like saying I love you when your drunk. Emotions can run wild, hormones are going crazy, and you may end up saying things you don't really mean in the heat of moment. In my opinion, you should never say I love you the 1st time when you are drunk, high, or just had/having sex.

Unless both people have already declared their love before.

If memory serves me correct...the first time a guy told me "I love you" I was fucking him at Steamworks in Berkeley. It didn't mean a thing he was just a fuck buddy and this was our second time hooking up.

within the context of this discussion i've never had another person say that to me.

to some degree i accept the op's initial theory but i would imagine that expressing one's love for another is somehow more important in the smaller things. coming home from work, seeing them off as they leave the airport. that sort of thing. i say this because i've had sex with other men and it was nothing more than scratching an itch.

I say I love you to my boyfriend a lot. Not had sex yet, so we'll see. Since we already say it to each other, saying it after sex isn't really going to affect us anyway.

Yeah exactly, the little things are what makes the words "I love you" actually have meaning

The irony of it all, as I said, just jumped out at me
