School fails, leaves 14 year old blind

That's just so wrong.....So very wrong. I hope their lawsuit goes well....maybe not 16M...but certainly enough for damages and medical care....I would hate to see this incident used by the family for a paycheck.

Depth perception for a lifetime, completely worth 16mil...

Imagine using the stairs and not being able to judge the distance from your foot to the step, in NYC...

It should be 30mil.

I just hope very soon there is a new eye surgery to correct the problem.

You do have a point......you're right.

He'd have to get a corneal transplant. The surgery does exist, but finding a donor is difficult. Mainly they use organs by people who donate their bodies after death. But the chances of a compatible donor dying???? Not so good...

I think the money is certainly justified, though I feel like more attention should be given to how to prevent things like this from happening. Hopefully his vision can be restored with surgery.

I'm sure part of it is because the media is focusing on bullying right now, but this just seems so rampant and out of control. It's ridiculous. I don't know what it will take to get these situations under control.

If the school system has to pay out, they will in turn produce policies and procedures to prevent them from repeating this in the future. Unfortunately, our schools are ran as businesses so ending the abuses will only be done as a cost prevention measure.

fuck that, i'm teaching my kids karate or boxing so they can defend themselves when they get older away from cunts like kids like those and even teachers.

Fuck that. I'll cut out the middle man and just not have kids...

I suppose that's the issue. What is frustrating to me is that the boy actually spoke up about the issue before. It's always encouraged to seek help when you are facing bullies but when children do this they aren't given the help they were promised.

It's always difficult to sort out issues of bullying after the fact.

For instance, his lunch money was stolen. He goes to report that and the kid who took it. If an adult intervenes, how do they investigate the incident? Any approach to the thief can be met with a denial. It becomes one kid's word against the other.

About the only thing that can be done is to increase visibility. There has to be more adults in there to watch the things that are happening. Of course that isn't going to happen cause those folks will want a paycheck, and who's gonna pony up?

speaking from experience, it's not the end of the world. the only time it's caused me consternation was when I was in Europe, because the stairs seemed to be spaced differently.

(which isn't to take anything away from this case, I'm just saying that I've been coping with 1 eye uneventfully for 30 years. the only impact it's probably had on my life is not being eligible to join the police force)

Of course it's not the end of the world. But it is a different world, for you and now him. And I'd bet for him it is a bit of a bigger deal knowing the world first with both eyes working.

You couldn't join the police? Well he wants to be a doctor. Depending on what kind of doctor he wants to be, depth perception is a crucial component of successful practice.

Would you use a surgeon with vision problems?

But more to the point, his life has been made this much more difficult and for what?

Give the family 16 million...

...and shoot one of the bullies in the head in front of the entire student body.

As a victim of bullying myself I have no sympathy with bullies at all.

Corneas can be transplanted from person to person with no need for compatibility testing, people have even received corneas from horses. It is the case because the cornea does not receive any direct blood supply (veins running through it might make it difficult for light to get through :P ), so the immune system cannot attack transplanted corneas like it does other transplanted organs.

A Brooklyn teen was left blind in one eye

there is a big difference between what you said he was not left blind.

If the only thing you have to say is you don't agree with my thread title...

Where's the suit against the little cunts and their families? Go after those fuckers, too.

Is the issue here that he didn't specify that the boy was blind in one eye? Seriously? There were plenty of details that he didn't spell out for you. That's why he linked to the article.

How bout I poke out both your eyes as well as the OPs and you can poke out one of mine and we will see if there is a difference. Well I will see, you two wont.

Well, I guess it's good that fetaby is just a poster on this board and not the person writing the article. So there is no real reason to make a stink about it.

He's lucky, he would have been fired with that headline. Maybe he should read the article before posting.
