Utilizing stem cell biology, scientists at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas have managed to create mice which are the offspring of two males. The scientists managed to induce cells from a male mouse fetus (XY) to create a line of male stem cells without a Y chromosome (XO). The XO cells were then injected into embryos to create eggs in female mice which lacked the usual two X chromosomes (XX). A female with XO eggs (in which all DNA had come from a male mouse) which mates with a normal male XY mouse could then produce XY offspring with the DNA from two males.

Mitochondrial DNA, which is extra-chromosomal, would remain that of the surrogate female mouse, of course.

Previous research has found ways to create mice without any fathers at all, as well as ways to create mice with two mothers.

Well this is certainly interesting, thank you for the post

If scientists created mice by using DNA from Brad Pitt and Montel Williams (yeah, those are two males), thee'd be mice running around with fully functioning human brains!

Maybe that's what Christine O'Donnell was talking about, LOL

^Yup, what I thought too.

Even vertebrae animal cloning process needs a surrogate female animal.
