^ In all my years here in Peterborough, I've had a pair of young Mormon fellows come to my door. Lots of JWs, but no Mormons. Thinking about it, though, there haven't even been many JWs, either, since Covid-19. They have, however, called me twice to peddle their Watchtowers.

^That might be because the JW's have marked your area as their territory, possibly following a turf war; and now it's a case of Mormons keep away. They don't like each other, y'know... and when they do run into each other, it's pamphlets at dawn...

My cousin is JW...but doesn't proselytize.

And I am unfailingly polite to the JW's who appear at our door...explaining to them that my cousin is JW and letting them know that they are free to leave their literature at my door at any time.

Life is too short.

My next-older brother, like me, was raised Baptist. They had 2 children: a boy and a girl. The kids grew up Baptist as well and celebrated Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and other such 'family' holidays. When my nephew was about 9 or 10 and his sister was 2 years younger, their maternal grandparents became JW and managed to convert their daughter (my sister-in-law) as well. Of course, my brother followed along and converted as well.

I can remember seeing my niece and nephew standing in the front window of their house watching the kids in costumes walking up and down the street collecting their 'treats'. They had already missed out on Thanksgiving and their birthdays, and now Hallowe'en. They missed out on Christmas, too. Of course, Mom still bought presents for them, but my brother and his wife refused to give them to their children. They missed out on Easter as well. Not a single Easter Egg.

Up until that year, they had celebrated all those holidays, and suddenly nothing. My brother finally put his foot down after that and never stepped through the door of a Kingdom Hall again, and neither did the kids. His wife attended for a month or two after that, but then she gave up as well. By the next Thanksgiving, things were back to normal.

I experienced the JW first hand. It wasn't pretty
