  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Screwed over again. Is the problem me? Am I just too much of a doormat with the jobs I've had?

"It's been a long road, gettin' from there to here. It's been a long time, but my time is finally near..."

Success! :gogirl:

Last month, I was invited to go to the overnight shift to replace a girl who had quit. Since they couldn't promote me, they could at least move me to nights, where it's $0.50 cents more per hour, until I found another store in the company that would take/promote me. After trying two of our "big-box class" stores, the second store will take me as a front checkouts supervisor. I am to go over there Friday for more info.

Also, my 1-year anniversary is coming up - job evaluation time. My assistant manager on nights loves the job I do, and has told me repeatedly as much. He has told me that he'll take care of me on that.

So I know I have three raises coming down the pipe soon - one merit one for my job evaluation, one for transferring to a big-box store (everyone gets paid more by default), and one for the promotion itself.

Life is good, right now. Finally, validation for what I've done for the two stores I've been with in the company, and for the company itself.

Finally, I will financially be able to go after my dreams and goals. It's at long last, about time.

^ Thanks for the update! And I am very happy to see things are starting to look up for you! :=D::=D:

You more than deserve it.

Thanks. I think that one of the big problems that both myself and several others find ourselves in is that our coworkers see the job we do, and they think we are actually higher up in the rank and file than we actually are. I've had my coworkers come up to me, and ask me if I'm a checkout-front end supervisor already. And when I reveal just how low on the totem pole I am, they're like, "Well damn, I had no idea. They should really move you up."

But it's what you get in this business - you go above and beyond, in the hopes that enough people will see what you do. And hopefully the opportunity to move up will present itself as a result.
