  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

See how long it takes you to spot what is wrong in this picture LOL

But the setup is not wrong. This setup has been looked at by 3 different inspection agencies in the last 2 years in addition to cook county inspectors.

Past inspections are irrelevant. This is the one that counts. Are you saying that there is only one inspector your town?

OK, I just figured out where the source of misunderstanding is.

There is at least 18 inches of vent before the turn there. Why? Because the vent doesn't start from the top of the box that you see. That's just a cover. This was explained to me a while back. That vent started much lower than that top part in the picture.

Makes sense, it's not a counter-flow furnace so the hear ex-changer is below the fan.

Did you not read the part where I said cone Monday I will call the office and tell them about this so they could send an inspector to look at it again?

Whether or not there is more than one or not, I don't know. They always show up when I'm at work.

Again, it is irrelevant what you guys think. I value the opinions of my local inspectors more than guys on the internet. Sorry. This setup has been cleared by many inspectors in the past.

Also, read my post immediately before this. There is at least 18 inches of vent pipe vertically before an elbo. The vent starts much below the top of the box in the picture. That's just the cover.

That should never happen. If you ever find yourself in a situation in which an inspector is required, Be There. And follow him everywhere he goes. Watch him at all times.

Inspectors are not experts by any means, and you would be surprised how many of them would have shown up at your home, signed off on the inspection as a 'pass', and go for a coffee and doughnut. And even if you were there and following him around, you have only his word that what he tells you is true unless you know the codes yourself. It happens more often than you might think.

Then why, oh why, do you keep asking us for our opinions and comments?

Where in this thread did I ask for your opinion other than try to guess what's wrong with that pic in the op?

And didn't you see the "and comments" in my post?

Exactly like I said....if you don't want our comments and opinions, don't post your threads. Don't you know how a forum works? :telstra:

Only you can make a thread about a funny mistake into an argument.

Like I said, there is an 18 inch vertical run before an elbo. It's behind the box I have also said I will call a city inspector to come and look at it Monday. At no point did I ask for your opinion. This thread is about the obvious mistake by the hvac guy, not about how you can put a negative spin on me again.

Added by edit.

On second thought, can a mod delete this thread please? Alistair is right. My mistake for sharing something funny thus inviting the wrath of online detectives and self appointed inspectors.

You really are such a troll :rotflmao:

Added by edit: BTW if you want the thread locked, hit the report but on your post. I don't really see a reason why it should be locked tho. Unless you just want to get the last word and keep others from responding to your "it's irrelevant what you think" comment.

Fucking troll

Haha I'm the troll?

You're right. Let's keep this going.

Anything else you would like to add?

Not yet please.

I haven't seen the mistake. Is it 'the 18 inch vertical run before an elbow'?

In the first picture, the hvac guy trapped the filter in. I made him come back and fix it. Then other people here pointed out that there needs to be 18 inches of vertical run before an elbo. Despite me explaining that there is already an 18 inch vertical run within the metal box and that I will call the city inspector to come and inspect it again after the weekend, trolls like Alistair are taking advantage and are making a big deal out of nothing.

That's pretty much it for now.

.. Internet trolls...

Yes I agree.

My friends tell me I get a bit obsessive about certain issues like impressionable teenagers who join killing Jihadist cults and other impressionable teenagers who get persuaded to kill their youth with ugly black marks on their skin.

But I don't get obsessive about small issues.

OK

And HVAC means Heating, ventilation and air conditioning vent?

No 'vent' on the end. Just 'Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning', and that applies to the entire heating and/or cooling systems from the furnace or air conditioner, all the heat or cooling and ventilation ducts, and even how much air comes out of the vents in all the rooms and all the balancing that is required so that it heats and cools efficiently and properly.

And all of the duct joints should be properly sealed against air leakage.

Ya. The thread was meant as a lite humor thread. Internet trolls tend to make a lite humor thread into a hugely controversial one, though.

Hugely controversial..........you wish.

You've done the same in this thread as you do in all your threads, wait til it starts petering out then go on the attack hoping to catch a few more posts playing the victim card. shameful/shameless trolling.
