Not sure how many of you know me, but today I see the doctor. Possible hernea situation which will be looked at today. I am SO swollen on my right side that "SIMON" is fully hidden away and doesn't want to come out to play. I am in "pain" when I walk and can only sleep on my back (If I get any good sleep) Keep me in prayer!

OUCH!.JPG

If it is a hernia, the repair surgery isn't all that bad. I've had 2 hernia repairs done, the left side when I was a kid, and the right side 4 years ago. The last hernia was so painful, that the after surgery pain, was hardly worse than that caused by the hernia itself. I wish you the best ourcome possible in all this!

Hernia repairs now are very low in pain. It is usually done laparoscopically through two or three very small incisions. The recovery is almost pain free.

Yea, things got a little out of hand today :-( so we can't go in till Friday (the actual scheduled doctors appointment because that's when she's available). So unless I end up in an extreme amount of pain I'll just have to wait until then! Thanks for the well wishes though and the information! :-D I even looked at a video of the procedure already.

Dude if you are in pain and that swollen you really need to get to the emergency room, don't wait, it could be a twisted cord to your testicle cutting off the blood flow. My uncle lost a testicle just because he didn't get to the doctor soon enough.

UPDATE!! Just saw the doctor today. Upon her feeling it, she feels that it is not a hernia, but an infection. I start antibiotics tomorrow and she also prescribed me some pain meds as a just in case (still experiencing a little pain now and then). Have to go in for an ultrasound of the area on Tuesday as well as going back to see the same doctor for a follow up.

Went to my ultrasound today. When I was done, I was told to go see my doctor in the other building and get a reference for a urologist. Waited to talk to the doctor and the nurse (because the doctor was so busy and late) asked me if I wanted to wait to talk to him and find out the results or just wait till my regular scheduled appointment tomorrow. Of course I want to know now. Fast forward -- The doctor tells me that they had trouble finding one of my testes because there is no blood flow going to it. Diagnosis is a testicular torsion. Normally you have 24 - 48 hours from diagnosis to get it taken care of (usually by surgery). I'm pretty sure that I'm WAY past the time frame. I'm sure that I injured it back when I did merchandising work about 5 years ago. Carrying around steel beams and carrying around boxes of tile amongst other things. It's just something that has been progressing over the past few years and the start of the head of all this was when I helped my brother move about a month and a half back. Then two weeks ago I went to move a 5 gallon jug of water from my car to the house and that's when the pain started. Next is seeing the urologist.

UPDATE! Well, setback..........doctor called and had to cancel on me. He isn't available on the day of my scheduled appointment. On top of that, as I was talking to the receptionist she revealed that they don't take the medical card that we have!  :##: When the appoinment was initially set up we told them about the card, ..... but I digress. Plus side the antibiotic is working. My swelling has gone down quite a bit! :D Now I just have to find a new urologist and set up an appointment. In the meantime....... updated picture too......

Went to my urologist today, uneventfull. Doctor told me to go get another ultrasound appointment and a CT scan of the area. and we continue........

I am surprised they are X-Raying the testicles. Usually they protect them. Are you sure he said CT rather than MRI?

It even said it on the prescription.

Best of luck. I know it must be tough.

Thanks! I just want it to be all over with. I mean there's not much pain anymore (of course pain meds help with that), but their still pretty well swollen still and I'm tired of having to readjust because they get in the way when I walk. :-(

O.k., so today (1/2/14) I went in for my CT scan and 2nd ultrasound. Strange part is that the ultrasound took longer then the CT. For the CT scan (at least for me), I would have to describe it like I was about to go down a water slide as they put me in feet first. Pretty much moved me from my knees to my belly button (at least that's how it seemed). During the ultrasound (don't know if I was meant to hear it or not) the lady mentioned that she thinks there might be fluid in there. Well at earliest, I get my results (at earliest) on 1/3/14. At latest by 1/6/14.

Saw my urologist today (1/9/14) and it is now confirmed. After he saw my CT scan and ultrasound, he says that it's not a testicular torsion, it is a hernia. So back to the original diagnosis we thought it was from the beginning. Unfortunately he doesn't do the surgery. So now we have to go back to Illinois Health Connect to try to find a surgeon. Or I'll just try to find out from someone from school about the health insurance I get through my grant money (might find something better that way??). Depending on the type of surgery done the recovery time it anywhere from 2-8 weeks. AND THE SAGA CONTINUES!!

Be sure the doctor does laparoscopic surgery. I have had hernias both ways and it is night and day. A bad week with one. With laparoscopic I could have worked the next day.

Alright, the appointment is set. My surgery is going to be on this Friday at 11am. Unfortunately it will not be laparoscopic. This is because according to the doctor if it's done laproscopically there is more of a chance of the hernia reoccurring because the hernia is so big. Surgery should take about an hour. Also we didn't have a choice of what hospital and we got the one that we didn't want to go to. It's a good thing that we were instantly impressed with the doctor and trust him. I just hope that I am doing good enough for church on Sunday. I am going to lead a worship song for the first time (instead of just singing with the choir). :-D

I doubt if you will feel like singing or going to church. Any movement will be painful in the abdomen, especially when you laugh or cough.

Ok, so my surgery has been rescheduled twice. First it was 1/29 @ 11am now I have to be at the hospital at 7am (some of the other cases the doctor had got canceled). So by afternoon tomorrow I shouldn't look like this anymore. Can't wait for this to be over and done with!
