Self-imposed famine coming to an end

Could it be housing speculators who drove up the price of a decent constructed on site house to levels blue collar men cannot afford? Could it?

By "centuries of slavery, invasions and colonization," presumably you aren't referring to the actions of the Chinese or Japanese enslavers, invaders, or colonizers? The rule is to only count the European behaviors when chronicling atrocities and conquests. Just reminding our dear readers.
Has that been going on for the past fifty years in which I grew up noticing how millions of Americans despise the millions of Americans that they call trailer trash, even before Reagan-Thatcherism's financial "Big Bang"? Well, that's America, who are you to demonize that, a damn commie?

Of course not, only the ones they suffered after meeting an improved version of themselves, not the ones they inflicted on others, like the Japanese on the Chinese, or the Chinese on their "minorities"... very unlike poor Korean people, taking pride on having been invaded like one hundred sixty-whatever times, without ever ever having reciprocated or done the same on any other people (so they say).

No, the rule is Europe and the USA having RULED to establish the tide that now it's turning, that is why... Nobody else has ruled over the rest of the world. You have the French and the Spanish and British and German and Turkish and Russian etc hating each other for what they did to each other (or to someone else, like the British/American building the Spanish Black Legend nobody ever built on them over the people they massacred for the sake of their Empire and Destiny), like the Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Iranian, Kurdish, Tutsies, Hutus, etc. but their is no other area in the world similar to Northern Western Europe and the USA imposing their views of who is racist or who is inferior or whose regine is morally reprehensible and where are to be drawn borders and when and how to be more or less conservative or progressive... or who and how is going to be prospreous or get a pass on their crimes.
Jut reminding our dear readers in what world we are living, who and how it came to be established, and why it is falling apart: the same asymmetry in the crimes is now calling for the corresponding asymmetry in the corresponding comeuppance. And unlike those who established that "Western World", I am not delighting in that Final Judgement for those they perceived as criminals, I am merely facing the factual truth. The fact that I am not a woke or a resentful Muslim or Chinese, and that I am not joining their resentful efforts, does not mean that I must cower or be blind to the reasons that the Western World never fails to cackle out loud whenever it has ever fitted their own convenience.

OMG, yes, I wrote "that now it's turning" and "their is no"... ah, well, that may mean I am growing beyond my old Broken English and now I may finally be assimilating proper native anacoluthes... and that I am learning to write out as it pours, without endless editing... for better like for worse

So this thread was about Dominus buying a new vehicle and considering consciously and seriously taking a vow of poverty just for the fun of it, now that he has a choice.

You'll miss us when we're gone--Communist Chinese hegemony, anyone? But don't just count us out yet: Remember, "We will bury you?"

Who said "bury"? I was talking mere decay  and transformation: you know, like the Roman Empire transforming into what is now (still) wrongly called "Byzantine Empire".
Talked about times several times before, but maybe you are too young and careless to have read me say it and remember it.

The "Communist Chinese" do not exist even in China :rotflmao:

Hegemony?!! Dream on, China, poor China!

"WE" HA! You still need to work on that "WE" identity in the USA: as far as I recall, you are not WASP enough to be allowed to be consider an American unless against others... you know, like Black and Hispanic were considered proud and able Americans to go fight communism in Vietnam before Communist Vietnamese turned that country into a capitalist paradise.

And you will miss the rest of the world who had fed you with workforce, not to speak the Europeans that provide the original for "US civlisation"

Welcome back!

I had been sinking so much money so often into the 2005 that a car payment would have been cheaper

So in the case of that old truck, Ford did mean Fix or Repair Daily?

My mechanic said I should be able to get over 200K miles out of the Toyota, and now I'm not even half way there. I expect to have it for a long time, and run it until it dies, but for now not going to the repair shop except for maintenance is a real joy! I'm hopeful my luck holds out with it, and wish the same for you.

From what I hear, 200K should be possible. And yes, I can imagine it's nice not ever going near a mechanics shop, except for maintenance.

I remember one time telling my mechanic that I hoped I wouldn't see him for a while. I quickly clarified that I meant in a professional context. I wouldn't mind running across him at the grocery store. He told me he had a lot of customers who felt the same way!

Make sure to get yours undercoated!
Something that possibly should be researched... I don't know anything about undercoating, but I have heard that there are times it may actually be a bad idea. I remember hearing of one system--I can't remember the name--that is apparently problematic. I casually researched it, and even found one mechanic that said they might not work on cars with this particular product. They sounded reasonable from the way they explained it--but, of course, who knows?

Undercoating isn't a real problem for me. Every car is so old the chances are it'll break long before it rusts through!

It wasn't a vow of poverty. It was self imposed temporary poverty in order to divert everything I could muster to establish a commercial business and rapid expansion. I'm easing off a little now, hence the 14 year old purple truck I just bought. Huge upgrade from the 21 year old beat up minivan.

No, I mean NOW that you have been doing it for years, and seem to find you rather like the taste, you would be considering to "be poor" (actually, ACT poor) not because there is a reason that forces you anymore, but because you can control the profit you can derive from it.

You know, like a miser moghul, like Ingvar Kamprad.

Dude, I don't like the taste at all. I lost everything. Including my husband. I even spent some time sleeping in my brother's guest house.

I'm not going to live a lavish lifestyle by any stretch of the imagination. But I'm never going back to being house-insecure ever again.

One of my employees said this a couple weeks ago. He said I own more houses than anyone he personally knows and I don't have a house of my own. That's funny and harsh. Like I said, my bf could kick me out anytime. I hate this. I hate being at the mercy of someone else.

Again, I was not talking about the circumstances forcing you to it, but the health and exercise benefits of thriftness.

If he can kick you anytime that is not a bf at all... he is more like your master, and you would be his...

You seem resourceful enough not to ever be at the mercy of anyone... and I mean wits and character but, anyway, I do not actually know you that much

That was a case of it being repeatedly in the shop, and a few times it was in for a few weeks...major electrical problem that they couldn't correct. It'd run/start occasionally when it felt like it. It was awful, but thankfully I had AAA.

I'm in WNY so it's pretty common to undercoat here as the winters can be real messy with all the salt they throw on the roads. The Tacoma I got had previously been owned in North Carolina and there wasn't a spot of rust on it...I wanted to keep it that way. If I recall correctly, Dominus lives in Indiana, so I assume he gets his fair share of winter weather too though I shouldn't assume it's commonly done or needed there.

Ok, so I was being overly dramatic. If he doesn't want me there anymore, I have many options. And none of which involves sleeping on someone else's couch. Because of the eviction moratorium, I put everybody on month to month lease. In other words, all I gotta do is not renew someone's lease and voila I got a place to move into.

I'm bitching because before this it was always someone else living with me, not the other way around.

Anyway, you are right. If nothing else, this experience has taught me how to live on nothing :rotflmao:

Anyway, now that I have this purple truck, the sky is the limit.

What an absurd premise.

Joswan didn't go to a great lengths to reach a goal. He simply thought he could rent out his room or apartment and make some money if he'd live in the shed out back for those times. If I remember rightly, he didn't have a job.

You and he are the only two members of this forum I recall in over 15 years doing that, and neither of you had to.

And you'll have to get someone else to freak about rats, as I have no opinion of that. Nutreas have become a food in New Orleans, and guinea pigs have been in South America for centuries. Food is food.

That you use your ex as some kind of model for weakness is just a little too convenient, don't you think? You needed to find an excuse to again brag on your own decisions and skills while trashing him, all the while he isn't here to tell his side of it. What we don't know is what attracted him to you, nor what happened to end it. And we don't know how that coincided with your overextension in becoming a rental housing speculator. I thought during your buying spree that you were bordering on unscrupulous behavior, and I am not sure how it all turned out, but I don't care. I'm against rent barons.

You throwaway slap at white people doesn't merit rebuttal, as it is too moronic to even be a serious insult. You are the one making your identity much based on your ethnicity, so the joke about you and Joswan was nothing more than a humorous wink at the odd coincidence. Joswan's name still appears in the people you miss thread.

Nah, I said that in jest. I had a goal of replacing my active income with passive income to a point where I could live comfortably with just passive income. It's been occupying most of my mind for the last 3 years as I set out to conquer the passive income world.

You are right. I still have PTSD from being abandoned. So, I have a very skewed view of how it happened.

That said, the "buying spree" was part of my rapid expansion. Mainstream literature on acquiring enough rental properties to replace a job takes years and years. If you look up online of people telling their stories, it's always "my 15 years journey" or "my 20 years journey". I was aiming to do it in 3. This required rapid expansion and dedication (and hardships) on a scale that's normally not taken. In other words, it's either all in or catastrophic failure. After nearly 3 years of it, I reached the black a few months ago. Still alive and kicking.

That said, I am not a baron of anything by any stretch of the imagination. I'm more like a survivor in a cruel world LOL.

You're right. I apologize for the insult.

By the way, I tried to search for Joswan's posts but couldn't find any one with that name. Any idea what he changed it to?

The fact that neither Joswan, JoswanPrince, or JPGhost comes up in a search implies that he requested his account be deleted. I believe they delete the posts when a member does that.

About 4 years ago, I began selling all my sh*t, including my new red silverado and went into self-imposed poverty standard of living to start a business. Eventually, I even gave up my living space. It's been quite a journey, living as if barely scraping by.

My main mode of transportation in the last 3 years has been this baby, a 2001 Honda Odyssey.

View attachment 1823292

It now has about 290K miles. I've probably put several thousand dollars over the last 3 years to keep it running. Well, the transmission just crapped out on me. A week ago or so I decided it was time to finally upgrade.

Ladies, meet my new sexy purple truck.

View attachment 1823294

It is a 2008 silverado. Not exactly new. But it will get the job done. Finally has something reliable again to take road trips with.

So, here's the plan. On road trips, this will be where everybody will sit.

Nice looking work truck. I live in a rural area where most everyone owns a pickup truck or SUV to ensure you can get around in the winter snow and ice. I've never owned a pickup, but have owned in the past 3 regular size SUV's and currently a crossover SUV...which to me is like a car with a hatchback/liftgate.
