Senate Repeals DADT

I saw on the USA Today, and the Post both said in a "historic move" and "groundbreaking expansion of freedoms". Fucking make me puke! Yeah, real "historic" when 38 other nations have gay marriage / civil unions, and the US has only gotten around to letting gay men and women die openly for serving their country. Yeah..... real historic. How many other nations have openly gay people serving in their militaries? 19? 24? More?

What a fucking farce. The only thing "groundbreaking" here is the Senate doing the right thing.

Remember what a certain member said about people that hate America? Well, I think its time that we deport you...

Re: Senate DADT vote likely on Saturday

Hopefully Mark Kirk is a one-term Senator. His seat has lately been flipping: 1998 (D to R), 2004 (R to D), and 2010 (D to R). It would help if -- in a realignment presidential period with Advantage: Democratic Party -- Team Blue wins a third consecutive term in Election 2016.

The only reason it flipped in 2004 was because the incumbent did not run. If he had (it was Peter Fitzgerald for reference), the seat would have remained a republican seat. With Kirk in office, the likelihood of any democrat taking that seat is slim to none.

Kirk actually is a moderate, despite what some people on here (you included) like to believe. He voted for repeal, just like anyone that has followed his positions would have known he would.

Re: Senate DADT vote likely on Saturday

A group called "Organizing for America" handed Senator Kirk 28,000 signatures today, urging him to vote for the repeal of DADT.

If he changes his mind, I may have to eat my words. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm ready with knife and fork in hand. C'mon Senator Kirk, make a liar out of me. ;)

How do they taste? Had your fill of them yet?

Repealing DADT certainly won't have any effect on court cases regarding gay marriage, but the fact that gays can now serve in the military will likely increase support for gay marriage among the general public, which will reflect to our legislators.

This is a great thing and President Obama deserves credit for always being an advocate of gay rights (way before most of the country new who he was).

Lets not forget Log Cabin Republicans and the Honorable Senator Lieberman both of whom the Far Left have been reviling. Both I've seen being named as key players in this issue by the Press.

It is historic in an American context...So could you please give it up already, because quite honestly your language and rhetoric in that post made me want to puke. Just get over yourself.

Likewise, gay people who don't vote and then piss and moan about voters who know the issues, are passionate about them, and put their money where their mouth is, make me want to puke. There's enough navel gazers in America already to need anymore of them.

All right. Since credentials seem to be required, I vote knowing the issues I'm passionate about and put my money where my mouth is.

I'm reminded of a dinner at which I was seated next to a PFLAG leader. I was praising some small victory or other, and she was fuming that much more needed to be done. It was a pleasant enough conversation, and she wasn't angry. She looked at me and quietly said (quoting Cybil Shapard in a commercial current at the time), "Haven't you ever wanted it all . . . just a little?" I just grinned. We had reached an understanding.

Now then. It is historic in an American context...So could you please give it up already, because quite honestly your language and rhetoric in that post was self-indulgent. Just get over the idea that you have to have everything all at once right now. What happened Saturday was a huge step forward for the cause of gay equality, and it cannot easily be reversed.

And I believe it will provide an edge in marriage equality cases: it says that the federal government believes that gays have equal rights -- and if they have them in one area, they certainly have them in the rest.

BTW, I thought of a wonderful bumper sticker for gay marriage campaigns:

End religious discrimination
Vote for marriage equality

This.

A lot of people don't seem to appreciate the importance of DADT repeal outside of the military context.

It was the game changer in homo civil rights in the US.

Every kid in the USA gets up in the morning every day now in a different world. I bet that a lot of the bullying and sanctioned homophobia will begin to die away as the reality of acceptance settles in.

We couldn't have asked for a better Christmas present this year.

It is something like the scene in Miracle on 34th Street where the attorney has all those letters from the Post Office dumped on the judge's desk. The judge decides that if the U.S. government has decided that the man in question is Santa Claus, he is not going to dispute it.

The U.S. government has decided that we really are people. Like the judge, others are going to fall into place.

Yes, Virginia, gays really are people.

THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, DAN CHOI!
