Senate yesterday and House today extends Patriot Act.

Of course he'll sign it.

Obama never met a Democratic principle he couldn't exploit and then betray.

The extended provisions include: authority for "roving wiretaps" to track an individual's use of multiple communications devices; gaining access to certain personal and business records; and tracking so-called "lone wolf" suspects who are not members of an organized enemy group.

The provisions have been cited as necessary by lawmakers in the aftermath of the failed attempt by a Nigerian man to blow up a U.S. commercial passenger jet and the shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas by a military psychiatrist who had been communicating with an anti-American cleric in Yemen.

Key components in the USA Patriot Act are set to expire at the end of the year, but President Barack Obama is seeking to extend them, reversing his stark opposition in the past to the same provisions. ...

In 2005, then-Senator Obama pledged to filibuster a Bush-sponsored bill that included several of these exact components, calling it "just plain wrong" in a Senate speech.

"Government has decided to go on a fishing expedition through every personal record or private document -- through library books they've read and phone calls they've made," he declared, adding: "We don't have to settle for a Patriot Act that sacrifices our liberties or our safety -- we can have one that secures both."

ABC News reports that "Four years ago, then Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who taught constitutional law, voted down the same provisions along with all Senate Democrats who insisted on changes to the bill that better protected libraries, limited clandestine search warrants, roving wiretaps, and FBI gag orders."

You never met a disagreement with Obama you couldn't exploit and turn into an absurd hyperbole.

Some parts of the Patriot Act are good imo, as they provide greater capability in investigations of potential terrorists. Some parts are downright despicable though. I really think the whole thing needs to be reexamined. Keep the things that are needed and have the things which violate lawful citizens privacy thrown out.

I was particularly displeased that they are extending the roving wire-taps. I had hoped that the whole thing would be re-examined and severely pruned.

Of course this is going to be extended! In The Obama Deception and Fall of the Republic it explains what EXACTLY is going on and point by point, it is absolutely correct. Go watch these documentaries as soon as you can if you already haven't yet. Make sure to see all the other important DVD's by clicking on the words above my signature.

I think the public feels much more comfortable with a Democratic Senate, a Democratic House and a Democratic White House administering this act than they did with Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft and Gonzales.

Leadership matters.

You can't possibly be serious. So it was wrong when the Bush admin did it, but its perfectly okay when the democrats do it? How incredibly hypocritical of you. The public STILL doesn't like it, and who's doing it has NOTHING to do with that.

Some of us can hold several opposing ideas in our head at the same time. I was never particularly concerned about the Patriot Act when Bush was in office, but I did think that there was a greater likelihood of abuse with the Bushies - they abused just about everything.

It is not unlike the American image overseas, the same policies have more support among American allies simply because Obama and his administration are trusted much more than the Bush people.

@iman

Putting a velvet glove over a hand of tyranny is still tyranny. Bush didn't have a velvet glove and he was made to look like a tyrant to demonize him so that Obama could come in and deceive many people. If you have watched those documentaries that I posted then all I have to say is sit back and watch it all happen. Do nothing INCLUDING not being able to see that the tyranny continues on even though Bush is gone and place your mind in a state to believe anything you are told and you will become a loyal slave.

Please realize what is happening before it's too late.

What a JOKE!

You mean you trust ERIC HOLDER, member of the Clinton D.O.J. during Waco? REALLY?

UGH

Everyone in the Dept of Justice during WACO is guilty of something?

Law officers were shot down in cold blood at Waco, children were molested by the cult leader at Waco, women, children and other innocents were murdered by David Koresh, but you choose to slander Holder because he happened to be a member of the DOJ in Washington at the same time? That would even be stretch for Senator McCarthy.

I guess your what they call a "values voter".

You must have written this response with your rose colored glasses on to say what you said !!! Trusted and respected by who exactly ?

You will all see the great and proud United States now be suddenly seized into the jaws of a form of tyranny that this earth has not yet seen. It is slick. It is seductive and sweet sounding...yet it is a great deception. I think it's too late now other than to simply spread the truth of how the world fell into absolute despotism and all of us who were in denial will go out with a whimper. There is no stopping it now. Nothing else can be done...and those who tried to warn the people will fall too alongside as if we were the same. We are the same as human beings but as awake individuals, those who know the truth of all that is happening right now will stand back and feel as if they have failed.

You have not failed...the best we can do now is amp up the infowar and hope more people will listen and learn.

^ oh please, it's really getting old.

Do you have any actual good things to say about what I post or are you limited to smearing my sanity and reputation by making me look like a complete moron? I have made mistakes in the past and I have made some pretty strange claims before (around when I first woke up, I was freaking out) and you have always been there to dig at what I said and post them as if to say "You screwed up one time here and this proves that your always wrong".

At least your consistent with your trolling. I give you much props for that. You do help me in some ways though. For example, every time you make me look like a nut I go and find more and more proof because your forcing me to dig deep. I win eventually because your shallow remarks about my sanity is only backed by your lack of a knowledge that you continue to spatter at me with rude gestures and such. That's all cool man. I honestly do wish you well and that you can live a great life.

Just promise yourself one thing for me. Promise that you will at least look into what I say. I'm trying to help you and every other person here that reads what I write. The depths of crazy is the unknown but once you know about the depths, you allow yourself to investigate life. You will never be the same once you allow yourself to look. You will be free.

That is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen you write. Get real buddy. The patriot act is bad no matter WHO is in office.

No, it's one of my more intelligent posts (no high bar that) but the problem of civil liberties vs security in wartime has been addressed by scholars, Supreme Court Justices like Breyer and many others.

Lincoln assumed almost dictatorial power, suspending habeus corpus and imposing martial law. FDR took extreme measures during WWII, particulary in regard to the Japanese and Italian Americans.

War time always brings restrictions on individual liberty and the relatively mild intrusions on privacy of the Patriot Act seem warranted and prudent given the threat we face.

The real fear is the misuse of power and for me, Obama and Holder, with their history of respect for civil rights and their unquestioned integrity are much less likely than the Bushies to abuse their power. It's like the old trust excercise of falling backward and trusting someone to catch you - would you trust Alberto Gonzales to break your fall?

You too will find out that you have been deceived. The Patriot Act and Homeland Security was by far mostly set up and designed to oppress the America people. If you read the MIAC Strategic Report you will find that it says that "WE THE PEOPLE" are the terrorists also known as home grown terrorists. In actuality what you will see is an ever increasing number of people who hate this tyranny who will rise up and ultimately hurt everyone, demonizing everyone related to that person and whichever origination they are in.

Watch the videos that I have posted. You wont be displeased.
