Re: Senator Biden calls Dubya out on his "bullshit
President Kennedy said in his inaugural address, "Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate." If he hadn't negotiated with Krushchev during the Cuban missile crisis, none of us would even be here to talk about this!
Even Dubya cannot allege that the 1962 heavy-duty talks with the Soviets, resulting in their backing down and removing the missiles from Cuba, didn't work.
No, I'm wrong - he CAN allege that these things never work. He can mislead, lie and screw us all he wants, and some people STILL believe everything he says.
If he's saying that Ahmadinejad is so horrible that negotiation will never accomplish anything, and with the history of what happened in 1962 (arguably the most urgent negotiation, with direct effect on the U.S., in my lifetime), is Dubya implying that Iran is actually such a horrible threat, even FAR WORSE than the Cuban missile crisis, that negotiation cannot even possibly help?
Iran does NOT have thousands of WMD's scientifically pointed and targeted at all the U. S. strategic sites and major population centers as did the Soviet Union in the Eighties. Even Reagan, who called them the Evil Empire, and once joked about bombing beginning in five minutes, knew and observed the value of negotiation.
Dubya's policy is NEVER to negotiate with anybody, and expect that things will just work themselves out, though the contrary has been nearly 100% true since he took office.
One definition of INSANITY is doing the same thing over and over and over, and expecting an entirely different result.
Another definition of INSANITY is to fly off the handle and start throwing some nukes here and there on Persian lands. I fully expect this to be strongly considered, if not actually acted on, before 2009. Such a move would be the worst political miscalculation ever made in the history of mankind, as I feel that, between a near-global oil embargo and China being pissed enough to crash-and-trash the U.S. economy, and the inability for the U.S. to acquire some of its needed munitions and guidance systems (etc.) from manufacturers in countries now-turned-hostile, it will be the DEATH of the United States.
I think that bombing Iran would give much of the world the message that indeed the U.S. is entirely reckless and conducting itself as the Great Satan, and I think that some very powerful nations would conclude that it's time to get rid of the menace - especially if we'll be stuck with four more years of belligerent Republican rule, which I fear.
