Remember, it is not an election. The purpose is to determine who will represent the party. The super delegate system gives a bigger vote to some active in the party over others who may not even vote in the final. Some states even allow menbers of other parties or independants to vote for the democrats candidate.

And the primary system has not given us better quality presidents or congressmen. If anything they have become more extreme and less effective since 1976.

These special delegates need investigating, vis-a-vis, their backgrounds and connections with corporate america. In a fb post I saw a couple of days ago, many pledged superdelagates supporting Hilary Clinton seem to be these types. They're not representatives of the people, but chosen because of their self interests.

The irony is that if the super-delegates had all lined up behind Sanders...even if Hillary had 3 million more votes than he has....all of his supporters would be saying what a great idea it is to have super-delegates.

Very true. In the old days, the conventions chose the candidates, with the final decision being made by people who actually knew the candidates. The effect was closer to the Parliamentary system, in which the members of the parliament choose the parties leader. It is likely that Hillary will be the candidate this year, with the negative outcome of the FBI investigation remaining unknown. Perhaps worse, a explosive new book is about to be published, revealing her personality and character as seen by a Secret service agent. It is referred to in post #38 below. The result of the primary system is the both parties going to be saddled with candidates which are strongly disliked and distrusted by a large percent of the people.
