Senator John McCain Has Totally Lost It.

For a man who's family is staunchly pro-gay, and has had an open mind in the past on this issue, it's really sad to see him sell-out simply because of a primary race. Although we already knew he'd sell his soul for political points after 2008...disappointing.

Mr. IHOP. He has flip on so many issues.

he's a politician facing a tough reelection. /shrug

I may strongly disagree with him, but I can't really blame him for his actions if this is what he needs to do to represent the interests of his constituents.

If that's what he's doing. I suspect it's his own interests that he's representing. Our current prime minister is much the same. The only concern he has is staying in power and he's breaking laws (even some that he, himself has made) all over the place to do it.

some people never know when to call it a day. he needs to just retire and go milk some sheeps.

Which is usually a cop out for all pols. He's pandering to the FAR-RIGHT of his AZ constituents, at least on DADT; not the average Arizonan. I don't usually like citing polls because a lot of them are crap, especially when the results are close, but 3/4 of Americans consistently support repealing DADT in MANY polls. This foot-dragging is pandering ONLY to the anti-gay right wing and the conservative military leadership.

hate him if you want to, but the guy that would pick up his senate seat if he retired is even worse.

I think I'd rather have a self-serving politician in power than a true believer lunatic.

Hayworth wouldn't be guaranteed to win if he beat McCain in the primary. But you're right, he would be worse.

Very glad John McCain [R-Arizona] isn't president. That's the good news. As for pollings, a few weeks back the former "maverick" was leading in the Republican Arizona Senatorial primaries over J.D. Hayworth by 5 points (http://bsimmons.wordpress.com/2010/...ing-on-john-mccain-47-vs-42-spread-of-only-5/). Now McCain is up by 12 points (Rasmussen: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/pub...on_2010_arizona_republican_primary_for_senate). The Republican primaries in Arizona are scheduled Aug. 24. I'm considering donating to Hayworth, especially given the May 18 primaries in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania that demonstrated that voters are in anti-establishment mood.

What if he actually gets elected? Would you apologize considering that Hayworth is an order of magnitude worse than McCain on every single issue? (including gay rights)

McCain is a politician attempting to obtain his party's nomination. That nomination process unfortunately involves a primary process which is largely dominated by the far right of the Republican party. Were there enough moderate votes in the primaries, I am sure he would not feel pressured to move to the right.

Exactly. He's a career politician. As are many in Washington, D.C.

I don't think he's lost it.

John McCain has ALWAYS been the kind of person with zero integrity, zero accountability and zero belief in anything he says.

He'll do whatever he's paid to do. Obama hasn't been the best president but if McCain had won the election, he'd have probably denied there was an oil spill, given a no-bid contract to Haliburton to shoot anyone who took pictures of it and sent any reporters who talked about it to Guatanamo Bay.

At least Megan McCain will have someone else to call "a dumbass."

If you have to sell your integrity to win a race it's not worth it.

And this isn't best for his constituents. He knows it too.

If McCain has to act like Hayworth to beat Hayworth, what's the difference?

One will actually follow through on his promises. (and it isn't McCain)

At least with McCain we know what we're getting. Hayworth is a lunatic.

Well, I already started a thread about this, but what the heck....

I think I'd rather have a self-serving politician in power than a true believer lunatic.

Know the difference between a true believer and an honest politician?

A honest politician stays bought.

Unfortunately, McCain is both.

I usually don't like to waste my time or energy on hatred, but I truly, truly despise that man.

May I add "loathe" to that statement, and join you?

I love it the way you always soft-pedal how you feel about him. :p

The only constituents he cares about don't know how many houses they own, either.
