Has anyone here gotten a septroplasty or rhinoplasty surgery?

How long until you fully recovered from surgery and if you had septoplasty, how long until you noticed results?

It's going to depend on whether they just do soft tissue work or whether they break your nose. And it also depends on whether the work is minor enough to just do splints or whether you end up with packing.

In a straightforward septoplasty, you can usually return to work after about a week although you have to lay off from heavy lifting and the gym for 4-6 weeks.

If they have to reset the nasal bones (called a lateral osteotomy), the swelling and bruising are more extensive and you may be out of pocket for a couple of weeks.

Most surgeons try to do internal splints- basically two plastic supports that are sutured inside the nostrils. These are usually removed within a few days of surgery. Then tend to get a little messy but don't impair balance or interfere too much with breathing. On the other hand, if your nasal passages are packed with gauze, it's fairly miserable until the packing is removed.

With any surgery, you will want to take it easy for the first week. If you overdo it, it will make the swelling and bruising worse.

In general, expect to be off from work/school for 7-14 days. And expect to be on activity restrictions for 4-6 weeks.

Hmm.. I got a septoplasty on Monday and I hit the gym today. I did 40 min of cardio and feel fine.

Only thing is my nose is very sensetive now and hasn't healed. I still am having bleeding but my splints were removed immediately after surgery. They didn't have to break my nose to do the surgery.

I am just a little frustrated because I didn't get as good results as I was hoping but I haven't completely healed yet so maybe that's why.

Your surgeon would probably have a fit if he knew you went to the gym. He should have given you post-operative care instructions that had activity restrictions.

You really want to keep your blood pressure and heart rate down until your swelling, bleeding and bruising resides. You'll have a much better outcome if you take it easy for a while.

you have to wait until your nose is fully healed to see the final results, don't get frustrated yet
i think the actual results are after 3 months

I agree your surgeon would probably have had a fit.
What kind of results were you hoping for?

I don't think he would. I saw him for my post op today and he said doing excersice is fine. I did not like having a tube in my nose though. He stick one down there that had a little light with a camera so he could see inside. :(
